Dimplex WPM Touch

Heat pump manager for Dimplex heat pumps: temperatures, power, status and setpoints over Modbus TCP.

The Dimplex WPM Touch is the heat pump manager of Dimplex heat pumps that controls heating, cooling, hot water and pool heating in homes and small buildings. This Modbus TCP template reads temperatures, power, heat quantities, running hours and status codes, and lets you set the operating mode, SG Ready state and heating and hot water setpoints from ModbusCloud.

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Show flow, return, hot water and outdoor temperatures of every heat pump on one dashboard.
  • Send an alert when the fault code is not 0 or the collective fault output switches on.
  • Compare electrical power and heat output over the year in the 365-day history.
  • Switch the SG Ready state to boost from an automation when electricity is cheap.
  • Change the hot water setpoint or operating mode on site without a visit.
  • Track compressor and pump running hours for maintenance planning.

Installation

  1. Fit the NWPM Touch extension in the Serial Card/BMS Card slot of the heat pump manager with the power off.

  2. Connect the extension to the network of the ModbusCloud Gateway with a Cat 5e cable and note its IP address from the Analytics menu.

  3. Open the NWPM Touch web interface over https, enable network services under Settings and restart the extension.

  4. In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus TCP device with the IP address, port 502 and unit ID 1, and import this template.

  5. Check that the outdoor temperature and the software version show plausible values.

Things to watch for

The heat pump manager does not answer on port 502.

Modbus TCP only works once network services are enabled in the NWPM Touch web interface and the extension has restarted. Older WPM software has no Modbus TCP setting; the extension updates itself within 24 hours when it is online. Also check that the IP address has not changed and that the extension is on the same network as the Gateway.

Some temperatures show 0 or an impossible value.

Not every sensor exists on every heat pump. Heat source inlet, room, solar, pool and ventilation values only make sense when that sensor or unit is fitted. The Sensor Fault code tells you which sensor the manager misses.

How do I write settings for heating circuit 2 or 3?

First write 2 or 3 to Circuit 2 3 Select to choose the circuit, then write the curve, setpoint or mixer settings. If the selection does not take effect, try the selection register at address 209. Write only values inside the listed range; the manager rejects or limits others.

Why are the heat quantities split over three values?

Each heat quantity is stored as three values of four digits. The total in kWh is the third value times 100000000 plus the second value times 10000 plus the first value. Heat quantities only appear on heat pumps with an internal or external heat meter.

What should I watch when writing the operating mode or SG Ready state?

These change how the heat pump runs for heating, hot water and pool. Writing 0 to the SG Ready or external lock register hands control back to the hardware inputs. Agree changes with the owner, and remember that writing registers from ModbusCloud is switched on per gateway on request.
