RS485 with Modbus RTU
The RS485 line connects to the gateway's terminal block. One line takes up to 32 devices.
Ethernet with Modbus TCP
The gateway reads Modbus TCP devices through its network ports. It also sends the data to the portal over the network.

Buffer during outages
If the connection drops, the gateway keeps reading. It stores up to 20,000 readings with their timestamp and sends them as soon as the connection is back. In the portal they then show up at the right moment in the history.
One reading is one register at one poll. How long the buffer lasts therefore depends on the number of registers and the interval. The portal accepts readings up to 7 days old.
