The ModbusCloud Gateway with the RS485 terminal and the antenna connectors

Carlo Gavazzi is an Italian-Swiss automation vendor whose EM-series energy meters are installed across PV self-consumption sites, commercial sub-metering, and industrial MCCs. The 5 Carlo Gavazzi Modbus templates in our library cover the EM111 single-phase meter, the EM24 three-phase energy analyzer with Modbus TCP, two revisions of the three-phase EM340, and the EM540 three-phase meter, mixing Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP connectivity.

With ModbusCloud and Carlo Gavazzi templates you read per-phase voltage, current, active/reactive power, power factor, frequency and imported/exported active and reactive energy. The EM340 template exposes reset registers for partial and total energy counters and a configurable demand-integration time window. The EM540 supports phase-to-neutral and phase-to-phase voltage readings, useful for PV inverters that require both line configurations.

All 5 Carlo Gavazzi templates are free to browse. Import one into your ModbusCloud portal to meter the grid side of a PV installation or track tenant consumption from sub-metered active energy.

What you can read out

  • Per-phase voltage, current and power
  • Imported and exported active/reactive energy
  • Power factor and frequency
  • Phase-to-neutral and phase-to-phase voltage
  • Resettable partial and total counters (EM340)

Typical installations

  • Grid-side metering for PV self-consumption control
  • Tenant sub-metering in commercial real estate
  • Industrial machine-level energy monitoring
