Kermi Heating & Cooling
Monitors and controls Kermi x-change dynamic pro heat pumps via Modbus RTU or TCP.
This template integrates Kermi x-change dynamic pro heat pumps via Modbus RTU or Modbus TCP. It reads temperatures, COP values, power data, operating hours, and fault states, and allows control of PV mode thermal power and target temperatures for heating and hot water.

Use cases
- Monitor real-time COP values and thermal power output on a cloud dashboard for each customer site.
- Create an alert when the heat pump reports a fault state so you can respond before the customer calls.
- Log compressor and fan operating hours over time to plan preventive maintenance intervals.
- Adjust PV mode target temperatures remotely to maximize self-consumption of solar surplus energy.
- Track total electrical and thermal power per mode to generate seasonal performance factor reports.
- Compare outdoor temperature trends against supply flow temperatures to verify heat curve settings.
Installation
Contact Kermi service at service@kermi.de or +49 9931 501 12004 to activate Modbus RTU or Modbus TCP on the x-center pro controller.
For Modbus RTU, connect the A and B data lines plus GND from your ModbusCloud Gateway to the Interface-Modul on the x-center pro controller.
For Modbus TCP, connect the x-center pro controller to your local Ethernet network and note its IP address.
Set the serial parameters on the gateway to 38400 baud if using Modbus RTU, and configure the correct slave address.
Import the Kermi Heating & Cooling template in the ModbusCloud platform and assign it to the connected gateway.
Verify data is flowing by checking live readings for outdoor temperature, supply flow temperature, and operation state on the ModbusCloud dashboard.
Things to watch for
Why does the heat pump not respond to Modbus requests after wiring?
Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP are disabled by default on the x-center pro controller. You must contact Kermi service to have the protocol activated before the interface will respond to any requests.
What baud rate and serial settings should I use for Modbus RTU?
Use 38400 baud. Confirm parity and stop bit settings in the Kermi installation documentation for your specific model, as these must match the gateway configuration exactly.
Where is the Interface-Modul located on the heat pump?
The location of the Interface-Modul varies by product variant. Refer to the installation manual for your specific x-change dynamic pro model to locate the correct terminal block.
Can I use both Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP at the same time?
The x-center pro controller supports both protocols. However, confirm with Kermi service whether simultaneous operation is enabled for your firmware version, as behavior may differ between models.
