iDM iDM Heating & Cooling Modbus TCP template

iDM Heating & Cooling

Controls iDM heat pumps for heating, cooling, and hot water via Modbus TCP.

This ModbusCloud template monitors and controls iDM heat pumps with the Navigator Control 2.0 over Modbus TCP. It reads outdoor and supply temperatures, hot water temperatures at three levels, electrical power, thermal energy counters for heating, cooling, and hot water, and heat pump error codes, while letting you write system operation mode, hot water target temperature, and external supply flow setpoints for heating circuit 1.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Run the heat pump at reduced mode during expensive grid hours and boost during cheap hours, using dynamic tariff data piped into an automation.
  • Alert the installer when the heat pump error code becomes non-zero, with the error number included in the notification for faster diagnosis.
  • Chart flow and return temperatures side by side to detect a failing circulation pump or clogged heat exchanger.
  • Log cumulative thermal energy for heating, cooling, and hot water separately for SPF or seasonal COP reporting.
  • Remotely raise hot water target temperature before the customer returns from holiday, without having to send them to the controller panel.

Installation

  1. Activate Modbus TCP on the Navigator Control 2.0. Instructions are iDM specific and available only to iDM partners, so contact the local partner if the service menu is locked.

  2. Connect the Navigator controller to the local LAN. On some iDM models the LAN port is directly on the heat pump housing; on others it is in the control cabinet.

  3. Note the Navigator IP address and set a DHCP reservation.

  4. In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus TCP device at the Navigator IP, port 502, slave ID 1.

  5. Import the iDM Heating and Cooling template. Temperatures should start updating within the first polling interval.

Things to watch for

Modbus TCP port is closed on my iDM heat pump. How do I enable it?

Activation lives in the iDM service menu, which is partner-protected. Contact your iDM partner and ask them to enable Modbus TCP on the Navigator Control 2.0. Without that step, the port 502 requests will be refused even though the Navigator is reachable by ping.

Some registers show sensible values, others return nonsense. Why?

The iDM map mixes float32 and uint16 registers. The ModbusCloud template decodes each one correctly, but if you have modified register settings manually, verify that the data type matches. Float32 values always span two Modbus addresses (e.g. address 1000 and 1001).

I can read temperatures but writing hot water setpoint is ignored. What should I check?

Writes go to the same address (1032) as the read, and the heat pump must be in a mode that allows external setpoint changes. If the iDM HMI shows a manual hold on the hot water setting, writes from Modbus will be refused until the manual hold is released.
