Thermokon NOVOS 3

Room sensor and operating unit for temperature, humidity, CO2 and VOC with set point and fan stage.

The Thermokon NOVOS 3 is a room sensor and room operating unit that measures temperature and, depending on the version, humidity, CO2 and VOC in offices and classrooms. This Modbus RTU template reads all measured values, occupancy and fan stage and lets you write set points, offsets and display settings from ModbusCloud.

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.

Use cases

  • Show temperature, humidity and CO2 per room on a ModbusCloud dashboard.
  • Get an email alert when CO2 in a meeting room stays above a threshold you set.
  • Keep a year of room climate history to check comfort and ventilation per season.
  • Adjust the base set point of a room from ModbusCloud without going on site.
  • Switch the warning or maintenance icon on the display from an automation.

Installation

  1. Connect A and B of the RS485 bus to the ModbusCloud Gateway with twisted pair cable and terminate both ends with 120 ohm.

  2. Set a unique address, the baud rate and parity with the DIP switches on the NOVOS 3.

  3. In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus device on the Gateway with that address and serial settings and import this template.

  4. Check that temperature and, if present, humidity and CO2 read plausible values.

Things to watch for

The unit does not answer. What should I check?

Check address, baud rate and parity on the DIP switches against ModbusCloud. Without parity the unit can use 1 or 2 stop bits, so match that too. Then check A and B and the 120 ohm termination at both bus ends.

Why do some registers read zero or nonsense?

Not every NOVOS 3 version has every sensor. A temperature-only unit has no humidity, CO2 or VOC. Read Sensor Setup to see which sensors are present and hide the registers you do not need.

Temperature reads in Fahrenheit. Why?

Register Unit System is set to 2, imperial. Set it to 1 for SI. Measuring limits are not converted when you switch, so check them afterwards.

Can I write the settings as often as I like?

No. Set points, offsets, limits and display settings are stored in EEPROM and must not be written in short cycles. Write them once when you configure the unit. The LED registers are not stored and must be written again after a restart.
