Brink Flair 325/400

Controls Brink Flair 325/400 recuperation units via Modbus

Modbus template for Brink Flair 325 and Brink Flair 400 heat recovery ventilation units. Reads air pressures, temperatures, CO2 levels, filter and bypass status. Also provides control of airflow, bypass mode, and imbalance settings via Modbus RTU.

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Monitor supply and exhaust air temperatures and pressures on a live cloud dashboard for remote commissioning.
  • Create an alert when the filter status indicates a clogged filter so the end user can replace it promptly.
  • Adjust airflow throughput and imbalance offset remotely to fine-tune ventilation balance after installation.
  • Track CO2 sensor readings over time to verify indoor air quality meets building regulations.
  • Receive a notification when bypass status changes unexpectedly, indicating potential mechanical issues.
  • Reset filter warnings remotely without dispatching a technician to the site.

Installation

  1. Connect the Modbus RTU interface of the Brink Flair 325 or 400 to the RS-485 port on your ModbusCloud Gateway, using the A, B, and GND terminals.

  2. Verify that the baud rate and parity settings on the gateway match the Brink unit defaults as documented in the Brink Modbus specification.

  3. Set a unique Modbus slave address on the Brink unit if multiple devices share the same RS-485 bus.

  4. Import the Brink Flair 325/400 template from the ModbusCloud template library and assign it to the correct gateway and slave address.

  5. Confirm that temperature readings display correctly, including negative values, to verify that signed int16 interpretation is active.

  6. Check that writable registers such as desired throughput and bypass mode respond as expected by adjusting a value and observing the unit.

Things to watch for

Why do temperature readings show unusually high values instead of negative temperatures?

Temperature registers use signed 16-bit integers (int16). If the template or gateway interprets them as unsigned, sub-zero values will appear as large positive numbers. Make sure the register data type is set to int16.

What baud rate and parity should I configure on the gateway?

Consult the Brink Modbus documentation for the factory default communication settings. Common defaults for Brink units are 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit, but verify against your specific unit and firmware version.

Can I use this template with other Brink recuperation models?

The template may partially work with other Brink recuperation units that have a Modbus interface, since many registers overlap. However, full compatibility is only confirmed for the Flair 325 and Flair 400.

How do I connect the Brink unit to ModbusCloud if it only supports Modbus RTU?

Use the ModbusCloud Gateway with an RS-485 port. The gateway bridges Modbus RTU to TCP and forwards data to the ModbusCloud platform over the internet.
