Chint Chint DSSU666 Energy Meter 3-phase Modbus RTU template

Chint DSSU666 Energy Meter 3-phase

Monitors 3-phase electrical parameters including voltage, current, power, and energy consumption.

This ModbusCloud template reads three-phase electrical measurements from a Chint DSSU666 energy meter over Modbus RTU at 9600 baud with odd parity. It covers line-to-line and line-to-neutral voltage, per-phase current, active and reactive power per phase and combined, power factor, frequency, and import and export active energy totals. The template also works for DTSU666, DSSU666-H, and DTSU666-H variants.

Use cases

  • Measure total grid import and export separately for net billing under varying feed-in tariff rules.
  • Monitor per-phase current to spot phase imbalance before it triggers utility penalties.
  • Log reactive power for sites where the utility charges for poor power factor.
  • Track per-phase active power to correctly size a future EV charger or battery expansion.
  • Compare reported energy against the customer utility bill to catch metering or billing errors early.

Installation

  1. Wire the DSSU666 A and B terminals to the RS485 channel of your ModbusCloud gateway, twisted pair, with common ground.

  2. Verify the meter front panel shows address 4, 9600 baud, odd parity, 1 stop bit. Adjust if you have multiple meters on one bus.

  3. In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus RTU device matching those settings and import the Chint DSSU666 template.

  4. If first voltage reading is 0 or a huge number, toggle the byte order in device settings and poll again.

  5. Cross-check current and voltage against the meter display to confirm decoding is correct.

Things to watch for

Voltages show values like 3.4e38 on first poll. Byte order?

Yes. Chint transmits float32 as CDAB for DTSU666 and often the same for DSSU666. Enable the byte order swap checkbox in the ModbusCloud device settings. Normal voltages will appear on the next poll.

Can I use this template for DSSU666-H or DTSU666-H variants?

Yes, the H variants share the register map. They are not officially tested by Chint as compatible with this template, but community feedback confirms readings match. Verify one meter in your install and then roll out.

Why do I see both active and reactive power registers?

Active power is what you pay for on a domestic bill. Reactive power shows how much the load is out of phase with the voltage. Poor power factor increases apparent power, which commercial utilities charge for separately, so both matter on bigger sites.
