If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Monitor room temperatures and humidity across three heating circuits on a single live dashboard.
  • Adjust target and economy temperature setpoints remotely without an on-site visit.
  • Create an alert when any of the five alarm registers activates on the KEBA unit.
  • Track boiler and buffer storage temperatures over time to identify efficiency trends.
  • Switch heating circuit operating modes remotely for seasonal or occupancy changes.
  • Compare outside temperature against heating demand to verify control curve settings.

Installation

  1. Connect the ModbusCloud Gateway to the KEBA Heat Distribution unit using a shielded RS485 cable with correct A, B, and GND wiring.

  2. Enable Modbus RTU communication on the KEBA unit and configure the slave address according to the device manual.

  3. Verify the correct baud rate and parity settings in the KEBA documentation, as the template default may not match the device factory setting.

  4. Import the KEBA Heat Distribution template in the ModbusCloud platform and assign the correct Modbus slave address.

  5. Confirm communication by checking that room temperatures and operating modes appear with plausible values on the dashboard.

  6. Test write access by adjusting a target temperature setpoint and verifying the change on the KEBA unit display.

Things to watch for

The gateway cannot communicate with the KEBA unit after importing the template. What should I check?

The baud rate stored in the template metadata may be incorrect. Check the KEBA device manual for the actual default baud rate and parity, then update the gateway serial port settings accordingly.

Can I read and write the same register, for example the operating mode?

Yes. Several registers in this template are mapped as both readable and writable at the same Modbus address. You can read the current value and overwrite it from the ModbusCloud dashboard.

Do I need to terminate the RS485 bus?

If the KEBA unit is the last device on the RS485 bus, enable the 120 ohm termination resistor at both ends of the cable. Unterminated buses can cause intermittent communication errors, especially on longer cable runs.

How are temperature values scaled in the registers?

Refer to the KEBA Modbus register documentation for the exact scaling factor. Some KEBA devices use a factor of 10, meaning a register value of 215 represents 21.5 degrees. Confirm this before interpreting dashboard readings.
