MoistureGuard Senzomatic HT Modbus RTU template

Senzomatic HT

Monitors ambient humidity and temperature in building structures and outdoor environments.

The MoistureGuard HT template reads ambient temperature, relative humidity, dew point, and absolute humidity from a combined sensor via Modbus RTU. It supports models HT, HT-R, HT02, and HT03, which are typically installed in building cavities, insulation layers, roofs, and indoor or outdoor environments.

Use cases

  • Monitor relative humidity and temperature inside building cavities remotely from the ModbusCloud dashboard.
  • Create an alert when dew point temperature approaches surface temperature to warn of condensation risk.
  • Track long-term humidity trends in flat roof assemblies to detect moisture ingress before damage occurs.
  • Set up threshold notifications when relative humidity exceeds a critical value inside insulation layers.
  • Verify sensor health remotely by monitoring power supply voltage readings across all installed HT sensors.

Installation

  1. Connect the MoistureGuard HT sensor data wires (A and B) to the RS-485 terminal of your ModbusCloud Gateway and supply the sensor with 12V DC.

  2. Set the Modbus RTU baud rate to 19200 with odd parity on the gateway port connected to the sensor bus.

  3. Assign a unique Modbus slave address to each sensor on the bus, ensuring no address conflicts with other devices.

  4. Test each sensor before installation using the MoistureGuard USB converter and the proprietary sensor tester application to confirm communication.

  5. Import the MoistureGuard HT template in the ModbusCloud platform and map it to the correct gateway port and slave address.

  6. Verify that temperature, humidity, dew point, and supply voltage readings appear correctly on the ModbusCloud dashboard.

Things to watch for

Why am I not getting valid readings from the sensor?

All measurement registers use float32 encoding, which requires reading two consecutive 16-bit registers per value. Make sure your gateway is configured for 32-bit float register reads. Also verify the baud rate is set to 19200 with odd parity.

Can I connect multiple HT sensors on one RS-485 bus?

Yes. Assign each sensor a unique Modbus slave address before connecting them to the same bus. The template can be applied to each address individually in ModbusCloud.

Should I test sensors before installing them on site?

MoistureGuard strongly recommends pre-testing each sensor using their USB converter and the downloadable sensor tester application. This avoids troubleshooting in hard-to-reach locations like sealed cavities or roof structures.

What is the difference between the HT and HT-R models?

The HT-R has more rugged internal component protection and is designed for flat roof installations. Both models use the same Modbus register map and are compatible with this template.
