PRO-VENT RC7 Easy

Controls and monitors a PRO-VENT RC7 Easy recuperator via Modbus RTU.

Template for the PRO-VENT RC7 Easy recuperator connected via Modbus RTU. It reads ventilation status, temperatures, filter condition, bypass and GHE states, and particulate matter levels. It also allows control of ventilation gear, bypass, heater/cooler setpoint, and airing status.

Use cases

  • Monitor real-time ventilation gear, temperatures, and operating mode on a live cloud dashboard for each installation.
  • Create alerts when the filter replacement status indicates a clogged filter so you can schedule maintenance proactively.
  • Track PM1, PM2.5, and PM10 particulate matter levels over time to verify indoor air quality meets customer expectations.
  • Remotely adjust the heater or cooler setpoint and ventilation gear without dispatching a technician to the site.
  • Set up notifications for emergency stop events to respond immediately to critical ventilation failures.
  • Compare bypass and GHE states across multiple buildings to optimize seasonal ventilation strategies.

Installation

  1. Connect the ModbusCloud Gateway to the RS-485 Modbus RTU port on the PRO-VENT RC7 Easy using a twisted pair cable with correct A, B, and GND wiring.

  2. Configure the Modbus RTU settings on the gateway to match the RC7 Easy: baud rate 19200, odd parity (1 stop bit), and set the correct slave address as configured on the recuperator.

  3. Ensure Modbus communication is enabled on the PRO-VENT RC7 Easy via the unit's own control panel or configuration interface.

  4. Import the PRO-VENT RC7 Easy template from the ModbusCloud template library into your project.

  5. Assign the correct Modbus slave address in the template to match the address configured on the physical device.

  6. Verify communication by checking that ventilation gear, temperature readings, and filter status appear correctly on the ModbusCloud dashboard.

Things to watch for

Why am I not getting PM2.5 readings from the RC7 Easy?

The PM2.5 register address is listed as -1 in the template, which may indicate an unsupported or special-case register. Check your hardware revision and firmware version against the PRO-VENT documentation to confirm PM2.5 sensor support.

What baud rate and parity settings should I use?

The PRO-VENT RC7 Easy uses 19200 baud with odd parity. Make sure both the gateway and the recuperator are configured identically, otherwise communication will fail.

Can I change the season work mode or date/time remotely?

No. The season work mode and date/time registers are read-only in the RC7 Easy Modbus register map. These values can only be changed locally on the unit.

The gateway connects but some registers return zero or no data. What should I check?

Verify that the Modbus slave address on the gateway matches the address configured on the RC7 Easy. Also confirm correct RS-485 wiring polarity (A and B terminals) and ensure the bus is properly terminated if the cable run is long.
