PRO-VENT PRO-VENT RC7 Premium Modbus RTU template

PRO-VENT RC7 Premium

Controls and monitors a PRO-VENT RC7 Premium recuperator via Modbus RTU.

Template for the PRO-VENT RC7 Premium recuperator via Modbus RTU. Reads ventilation status, temperatures, air quality (CO2, PM1, PM2.5, PM10), humidity, bypass position, and filter status. Allows control of ventilation gear, bypass mode, heater/cooler modes, and set temperatures.

Use cases

  • Monitor indoor air quality including CO2, PM2.5, and humidity on a live dashboard for residential customers.
  • Create an alert when the filter replacement status indicates the filter needs changing.
  • Remotely adjust ventilation gear and bypass mode to optimize energy recovery during seasonal changes.
  • Set up notifications when CO2 concentration exceeds a healthy threshold for more than 15 minutes.
  • Track supply and extract temperatures over time to verify heat recovery efficiency.
  • Control heater and cooler workmodes remotely to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures.

Installation

  1. Connect the ModbusCloud Gateway to the PRO-VENT RC7 Premium using a twisted pair RS-485 cable wired to the A and B terminals.

  2. Configure the Modbus RTU settings on the RC7 Premium to 19200 baud, odd parity, and assign a unique Modbus slave address.

  3. Set the same baud rate (19200), parity (odd), and slave address on the ModbusCloud gateway to match the RC7 Premium configuration.

  4. Import the PRO-VENT RC7 Premium template from the ModbusCloud template library and assign it to the configured gateway.

  5. Verify that all read registers return valid data on the ModbusCloud dashboard, paying attention to shared register addresses that use different function codes.

  6. Test write operations such as ventilation gear set and bypass workmode to confirm correct control of the unit.

Things to watch for

Why do I get unexpected values when reading bypass or GHE workmode registers?

Some register addresses are shared between different read and write functions, for example address 11. Make sure you are using the correct Modbus function code for each operation. Using the wrong function code can return data from a different parameter.

What baud rate and parity settings does the RC7 Premium require?

The RC7 Premium uses 19200 baud with odd parity. Both the gateway and the recuperator must be configured identically, otherwise communication will fail.

What data format do the registers use?

All registers are uint16 (unsigned 16-bit integer). No special byte order or scaling beyond the default is needed, but always verify sensor readings against the unit display after initial setup.

Can I connect multiple PRO-VENT units on the same RS-485 bus?

Yes, as long as each unit has a unique Modbus slave address. Make sure the RS-485 bus is properly terminated and that the total cable length stays within RS-485 specifications.
