Riello UPS Multi Sentry
Online UPS for critical loads: mains, output, battery, load and alarms over the network.
The Riello UPS Multi Sentry is an online double-conversion UPS that protects servers and critical equipment in data centres, server rooms and utility buildings. This Modbus TCP template reads mains, output and battery values, load, remaining backup time and alarms, and lets you start a battery test or a controlled shutdown from ModbusCloud.

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.
Use cases
- Show input, output and battery values of every UPS on one dashboard per site.
- Get an alarm by email as soon as the UPS switches to battery or the battery is low.
- Track load per phase and output energy in the history to see how much spare capacity is left.
- Watch the remaining backup time and the internal temperature to plan battery replacement.
- Start a battery test remotely and check the result without visiting the site.
Installation
Fit a NetMan 204 card in a free communication slot of the Multi Sentry and connect it to the network of the ModbusCloud Gateway.
Open the web interface of the card, give it a fixed IP address and check that Modbus TCP is active on port 502.
In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus TCP device with the IP address of the card, port 502 and unit ID 1, and import this template.
Check that the input and output voltages come in with plausible values, then set up dashboards and alarms.
Things to watch for
The UPS does not answer. What should I check?
Check that the gateway reaches the IP address of the NetMan 204 card and that nothing blocks port 502 between them. After a restart the card needs about two minutes before it answers. If the card answers but every value stays empty, check the state Communication Lost With UPS: the card is then not talking to the UPS itself.
Some values show 65535 or -1. Is the template wrong?
No. The card returns 0xFFFF for a value the UPS does not provide, for example bypass values on some versions or a temperature sensor that is not connected. Leave those registers out of your dashboard or ignore that value in alarms.
How do I send a command such as a battery test?
Write the code to Command Code: 20 for a battery test, 1 for shutdown, 2 for shutdown and restore, 12 for bypass, 3 to cancel a shutdown or bypass command. Set Shutdown Delay Time and Restore Delay Time first when you use them. Command Result then shows the code when the UPS carried it out, or the code plus 100 when it did not.
Can I read several UPS units on one gateway?
Yes. Every UPS has its own NetMan 204 card with its own IP address. Add each card as a separate Modbus TCP device in ModbusCloud and import the template for each one.
