Installation

1. 1Connect the ModbusCloud gateway (MCG or MLP series) to the same local network as the Smartfox PRO Charger 2 and ensure both devices can communicate over TCP.
2. 2Verify that Modbus TCP is enabled on the Smartfox PRO Charger 2 and note its IP address and configured Modbus TCP port.
3. 3Assign a unique Modbus unit ID to the charger if multiple devices share the same network segment.
4. 4Import the Smartfox PRO Charger 2 template in the ModbusCloud portal and enter the charger IP address, port, and unit ID.
5. 5Confirm that register values such as charging power and charging mode appear correctly on the dashboard to validate the connection.
6. 6Test a write command, for example switching the charging mode, to verify bidirectional communication is working.

Things to watch for

Which Modbus TCP port does the Smartfox PRO Charger 2 use by default?

The default Modbus TCP port is typically 502. Check the charger's network settings menu to confirm or change the port if another device on the network already uses 502.

Why does the total energy value look incorrect or very large?

The total energy register (Energie Gesamt) uses a uint64 data type spread across four consecutive registers. Make sure your gateway is configured to read all four registers and that the byte order matches the charger's convention (typically big-endian).

Can I read and write the charging mode from the same register?

Yes. The charging mode register and the local button press register are both readable and writable. You can read the current state and send a new value to change the mode remotely.

The gateway connects but all values show zero. What should I check?

Verify that the register addresses are configured in the 4xxxx range as holding registers (e.g. 40999, 41011, 42100). Also confirm the correct Modbus unit ID is set on both the charger and the template.
