Installation

1. 1Enable Modbus TCP on the Ampere.StoragePro by accessing the inverter web interface or the AIO3 communication module on your local network, and confirm port 502 is reachable. The default Modbus unit ID for the inverter is 2.
2. 2Connect the ModbusCloud Gateway to the same LAN segment as the inverter, either via a switch or directly. Confirm the gateway can reach the inverter IP on port 502 using a Modbus test tool before proceeding.
3. 3In the ModbusCloud portal, add a new device, select the Ampere Ampere.StoragePro (battery) template, enter the inverter IP address, set port to 502, and set the unit ID to 2 (or the value confirmed in step 1).
4. 4After saving, open the live register view and spot-check the soc register at address 40972. A value between 0 and 100 confirms polling is working. If power at address 16550 reads zero overnight, verify the signed int16 interpretation is correct in your portal display.

Things to watch for

The gateway connects but the soc register always reads zero or an implausible value. What is wrong?

Confirm the unit ID. The Ampere.StoragePro uses Modbus unit ID 2 by default, not 1. If the Ampere.IQ box is also on the network, it occupies ID 1. Setting the wrong ID will return zero-filled or error responses that look like valid data.

The power register at address 16550 shows large random numbers. How do I fix this?

Address 16550 uses a signed int16 type. If your client reads it as unsigned, negative discharge values will appear as large positive numbers, for example 65535 instead of -1. Confirm the register type is configured as int16 in the portal template and check that no byte-swap is applied, as the SAJ H2 protocol uses standard big-endian byte order.

No data appears at all even though port 502 is open on the inverter.

Some SAJ H2 and compatible firmware revisions require the AIO3 Wi-Fi or Ethernet module to be installed and active before Modbus TCP is accessible. If the module is absent or in error state, port 502 may accept connections but return exception codes. Verify the AIO3 module status LED is green before polling.

Is it safe to write the batterymode registers remotely from the portal?

Use caution. The batterymode registers (addresses 13828, 13830, 13831, 13832, 13895, 13905) directly control inverter operating mode. Writing an unsupported value or switching modes during active grid interaction can trigger protection shutdowns or, depending on firmware version, may affect warranty terms. Always test mode writes during low-load periods and confirm the inverter recovers to normal operation before automating.
