Installation

1. 1Enable the Modbus RTU interface on the AXIhycon 12-15H by navigating to the inverter's communication settings menu and confirming the RS485 port is active; note the configured slave address (default is 1) and baud rate (default 9600, 8N1).
2. 2Wire the ModbusCloud Gateway RS485 terminals to the inverter COM port: connect A (positive data) to the A terminal and B (negative data) to the B terminal, using shielded twisted-pair cable no longer than 100 metres; add a 120-ohm termination resistor at the far end if the Gateway is the last device on the bus.
3. 3In the ModbusCloud portal, add a new device, select the Axitec AXIhycon 12-15H (grid) template, and enter the slave unit ID that matches the address set on the inverter.
4. 4After saving, open the live register view and spot-check the power register at address 33263: with the inverter running you should see a non-zero signed value; a persistent zero or error code indicates a wiring or address mismatch.

Things to watch for

All power registers return zero even when the inverter is running. Why?

The 33263 and per-phase power registers are sourced from the external grid meter connected to the inverter's meter port. If no Eastron or Acrel meter is installed and configured in the inverter's advanced settings, the inverter reports zero for all meter registers. Verify that a compatible meter is wired and that the correct meter type is selected in the inverter communication settings.

The energy register at 33283 reads an implausibly large number. What is wrong?

Register 33283 is a uint32 value with a scaling factor of 0.01 kWh (divide the raw value by 100 to get kWh). If your Modbus master is treating the raw integer as watt-hours without applying this scale, the displayed figure will be 100 times too large. Confirm that the ModbusCloud template scaling is applied correctly before comparing values against utility meter data.

Phase currents and powers read garbled or oscillating values. What causes this?

The per-phase power registers (33257, 33259, 33261) and the total power register (33263) are 32-bit signed values spanning two consecutive 16-bit Modbus registers. Reading only one word, or reversing word order (little-endian instead of big-endian), produces corrupted readings. Ensure your polling request reads both words in a single contiguous block starting at the base address, and that word order is big-endian (high word first).

The Gateway connects but returns timeout errors after a few minutes. What should I check?

The Solis-platform RS485 bus on the AXIhycon 12-15H is also used by the manufacturer's datalogger dongle. Having two Modbus masters competing on the same bus causes collisions and timeouts. Either remove the datalogger dongle while the ModbusCloud Gateway is connected, or use an RS485 splitter with arbitration. Also confirm the baud rate matches: the inverter default is 9600 bps, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity.
