FoxESS FoxESS H3 Modbus RTU template

FoxESS H3

Three-phase hybrid inverter with PV, battery and grid values per phase, work mode and remote power control.

The FoxESS H3 is a three-phase hybrid inverter that combines two PV inputs, a battery and the grid, with a backup output for homes and small businesses. This Modbus RTU template reads PV, grid, load and battery values, energy counters and fault codes, and lets you set the work mode, SOC limits and remote active power from ModbusCloud.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Show PV power, battery SOC and grid power per phase of a FoxESS H3 on a dashboard.
  • Get an alert when a fault code register is no longer 0 or the battery SOC drops below a threshold.
  • Compare solar generation, feed-in, grid consumption and battery throughput per day in the history.
  • Raise the minimum SOC remotely before an expected grid outage so the EPS output has reserve.
  • Switch the work mode between Self Use, Feed-in First and Back-up from ModbusCloud.

Installation

  1. Connect the RS485 pair from the communication port of the inverter to the RS485 port of the ModbusCloud Gateway, A to A and B to B, with 120 ohm at the end of the bus.

  2. Check the Modbus address in the inverter settings; the default is 247.

  3. In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus device with protocol RTU, address 247, 9600 baud and 8N1, and import this template.

  4. Check that Inverter Model shows H3 and Battery SoC matches the display.

Things to watch for

The inverter does not answer. What should I check?

Check that ModbusCloud uses address 247 and 9600 baud, swap A and B if nothing comes back and terminate the line with 120 ohm. A data logger on the same RS485 port can block the bus.

The BMS cell values and SoH stay empty. Why?

These registers are only filled from master firmware 1.80. Read Master Firmware Version; below 180 the inverter does not provide them.

How do I read feed-in and grid consumption per phase?

Grid CT Power per phase is one signed value: positive is feed-in, negative is power taken from the grid. Use a threshold on the sign for alerts.

Can I change the work mode and SOC limits from ModbusCloud?

Yes, work mode, SOC limits, charge and discharge current and the remote control registers are writable. Writing is off per gateway by default; request it for the gateway in the portal. Remote control needs Remote Control Enable and a timeout, after which the inverter returns to its work mode.
