Installation
Connect the ModbusCloud Gateway to the RS485 terminals on the Kostal inverter using a twisted pair cable with correct A and B polarity.
Set the baud rate on the Kostal inverter to 19200 and note the configured Modbus slave address.
Import the Kostal Inverter template in the ModbusCloud platform and assign the correct slave address to match the inverter configuration.
Ensure the RS485 bus is properly terminated if the gateway is at the end of the bus, using a 120 ohm termination resistor.
Power on the gateway and verify in the ModbusCloud dashboard that data is being received from the Kostal inverter.
Things to watch for
The gateway is not receiving any data from the Kostal inverter. What should I check?
Verify that the RS485 wiring polarity (A and B) is correct and that the baud rate on both the gateway and inverter is set to 19200. Also confirm the Modbus slave address in the template matches the address configured on the inverter.
Do I need to enable Modbus on the Kostal inverter first?
Some Kostal inverter models require Modbus communication to be explicitly enabled in the inverter settings menu or via the inverter's web interface. Consult your specific Kostal inverter manual for the exact steps.
Can I connect multiple Kostal inverters on the same RS485 bus?
Yes, as long as each inverter has a unique Modbus slave address. Add a separate device entry in ModbusCloud for each inverter, each referencing the Kostal Inverter template with the correct address.
