Installation
Log in to the Kostal Smart Energy Meter dashboard using the password printed on the type plate on the side of the device.
Enable the Modbus TCP slave function under the Modbus settings section of the KSEM dashboard.
Connect the KSEM and the ModbusCloud Gateway to the same local network.
Configure the gateway with the IP address of the KSEM, port 502, and Modbus unit address 1.
Import the Kostal Smart Energy Meter template in the ModbusCloud platform and assign it to the gateway.
Verify that grid power, home consumption, and inverter AC output values appear on your ModbusCloud dashboard.
Things to watch for
The gateway cannot read any data from the KSEM. What should I check?
Make sure the Modbus TCP slave function is activated in the KSEM dashboard under Modbus settings. Also verify that the gateway IP address, port 502, and unit address 1 are correctly configured.
How do I find the password to access the KSEM configuration?
The initial password is printed on the type plate on the side of the Kostal Smart Energy Meter. If the password has been changed, contact the person who commissioned the device.
Can I monitor battery power with this template?
Battery power is available at Modbus address 40984 (function code 0x03, int32, in watts) but is not included in the default template. You can add it as a custom data point in ModbusCloud.
What data type do the registers use?
All registers in this template use the int32 (32-bit signed integer) data type. Make sure your data type setting matches, otherwise values will appear incorrect or zero.
