Lovato ATL610

Transfer switch controller for mains and generator, with line voltages, breaker status and alarms.

The Lovato ATL610 is an automatic transfer switch controller that switches a load between two power sources, such as mains and a generator, in switchboards and emergency power systems. This Modbus RTU template reads line voltages, frequencies, breaker status and alarms, and lets you change the operating mode and send breaker and generator commands from ModbusCloud.

Send your device list

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.

Use cases

  • Show the voltages of mains and generator line and which breaker is closed on one dashboard per switchboard.
  • Send an email when the Alarms register is not 0, for example breaker trip or battery voltage too low.
  • Track breaker operations and time on the backup line to plan maintenance of breakers and generator.
  • Keep a 365-day history of line voltages to see how often and how long the main supply failed.
  • Switch the controller to MAN or AUT remotely after a planned maintenance job.

Installation

  1. Fit expansion module EXP1012 (RS485) on the ATL610 and wire its A and B terminals to the RS485 bus of the ModbusCloud Gateway. Terminate both ends of the line.

  2. In setup menu M08, set node address, speed (default 9600), data format (default 8 bits, no parity), stop bits and protocol Modbus-RTU for the port of the module.

  3. In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus device with the same address and settings and import the Lovato ATL610 template.

  4. Check that Line 1 Voltage L1-N shows the mains voltage and that Line 1 Breaker Status matches the breaker position.

Things to watch for

The controller does not answer on the bus. What should I check?

Modbus over RS485 needs expansion module EXP1012; the optical port on the front is not a bus connection. Check in menu M08 that the module port uses protocol Modbus-RTU with the same address, speed and data format as the Modbus device in ModbusCloud. Then swap A and B and check the termination.

Why do two status registers exist for the same function?

For the input function status and the digital outputs, two addresses are included because the register list and its bit table give different addresses. Read both on your controller and keep the one that changes when an input or output switches. The line 2 status registers also sit in a different address range than line 1.

The battery minimum and maximum look ten times too high.

Battery Voltage is given in tenths of a volt, while the minimum and maximum are listed in volts. The template uses scale 1 for both. If the values do not match the display, change the scale of those two registers to 0.1 in ModbusCloud.

What happens when I write a command to the ATL610?

Commands act at once: a new operating mode, opening or closing a breaker or starting a generator can interrupt the supply to the load. Agree on every command with whoever is responsible for the installation. Setup parameters written through the parameter registers only take effect after Save And Reboot.
