Installation

1. 1Connect the ModbusCloud gateway (MCG or MLP series) to the RS-485 terminal of the Wolf CWL-2-325 using a twisted-pair cable with correct A/B polarity.
2. 2Set the Modbus RTU baud rate on the Wolf CWL-2-325 to 9600, matching the gateway configuration.
3. 3Assign a unique Modbus slave address on the Wolf unit and configure the same address in the ModbusCloud gateway.
4. 4Import the Wolf CWL-2-325 template from the ModbusCloud template library into your project.
5. 5Verify communication by checking that supply and exhaust air temperature values appear on the dashboard.
6. 6Confirm which write register (address 8000 or 8002) controls supply air throughput and which controls exhaust air throughput during commissioning.

Things to watch for

Why do I see two registers both labeled 'Desired throughput setting'?

The Wolf CWL-2-325 uses register address 8000 and 8002 for throughput control. One applies to supply air and the other to exhaust air. Write a test value to each register individually and observe which airflow changes on the unit to determine the correct mapping.

What baud rate should I use for the Modbus RTU connection?

The default baud rate is 9600. Make sure both the Wolf unit and the ModbusCloud gateway are set to the same baud rate, parity, and stop bit configuration.

The filter status register does not update after I replaced the filter. What should I do?

After physically replacing the filter, use the reset filter warning register in the template to clear the warning. The Wolf unit will not automatically reset this status upon filter replacement.

I am not getting any response from the Wolf unit over Modbus RTU. What should I check?

Verify the RS-485 wiring polarity (A and B terminals), confirm the correct slave address is set on both the unit and the gateway, and ensure the baud rate matches. Also check that the RS-485 bus is properly terminated if the cable run is long.
