WOLF WRS-K

Controls and monitors WOLF ventilation units via WRS-K Modbus interface.

This template connects to WOLF ventilation units via the WRS-K Modbus RTU interface. It reads temperatures, humidity, fan speeds, airflow volumes, heat recovery status, and fault indicators. It also allows control of operating mode, fan speeds, temperature setpoint, and on/off switching.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Monitor supply, exhaust, and outside air temperatures on a live dashboard to verify ventilation performance.
  • Create an alert when a collective fault is reported by the WOLF ventilation unit so you can respond quickly.
  • Adjust the supply air temperature setpoint remotely when a customer reports comfort issues.
  • Track heat recovery status over time to detect degradation and schedule filter or exchanger maintenance.
  • Switch the ventilation unit on or off remotely based on building occupancy or seasonal schedules.
  • Log supply and exhaust airflow volumes to document compliance with ventilation regulations.

Installation

  1. Wire the WRS-K interface to the ModbusCloud Gateway using a shielded RS-485 cable, connecting A, B, and GND terminals.

  2. Set the Modbus slave address on the WRS-K module according to the WOLF documentation and ensure it does not conflict with other devices on the bus.

  3. Confirm the baud rate is set to 9600 on both the WRS-K interface and the ModbusCloud gateway.

  4. Import the WOLF WRS-K template in the ModbusCloud platform and assign it to the correct gateway and slave address.

  5. Verify that live readings such as supply air temperature and fan speed appear on the dashboard before finalizing the installation.

Things to watch for

Why do I see incorrect values for certain registers even though communication is working?

The WRS-K register map reuses the same address for different data depending on the function code or offset. Make sure the template is using the correct function codes. Do not modify register mappings without consulting the WOLF WRS-K manual.

What baud rate and serial settings should I use?

The default is 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit (9600 8N1). These settings must match on both the WRS-K module and the Modbus gateway.

Can I connect multiple WOLF ventilation units on the same RS-485 bus?

Yes, as long as each WRS-K module has a unique Modbus slave address. Use proper bus topology with termination resistors at both ends of the cable.

Do I need a specific firmware version on the WOLF ventilation unit?

The WRS-K interface should work with any WOLF ventilation unit that supports this module. Check the WOLF compatibility list or manual at wolf-heiztechnik.at to confirm your specific model is supported.
