If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.

Use cases

  • Show energy import, export and power per phase of every tenant meter on one dashboard.
  • Send an email alert when the current of a phase rises above the limit of the circuit breaker.
  • Keep 365 days of history of energy per tariff to bill tenants or compare day and night use.
  • Switch the active tariff from ModbusCloud when your contract has fixed peak hours.
  • Reset the resettable energy counters at the start of a measurement period without touching the totals.

Installation

  1. Connect RS485 A, B and common of the D13 15 to the RS485 port of the ModbusCloud Gateway and terminate both ends of the bus with 120 ohm.

  2. Set or read the Modbus address, baud rate and parity in the meter menu.

  3. In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus device on the Gateway with the same address and serial settings, then import this template.

  4. Check that the voltages L1-N to L3-N, the frequency and the total active energy arrive with plausible values.

Things to watch for

The meter does not answer on the RS485 bus. What should I check?

The bus is polarity dependent, so swap A and B if nothing comes back and connect the common wire as well. Match the address, baud rate and parity shown in the meter menu, terminate only the two ends of the bus and keep stubs shorter than 1 m.

Why do some registers show FFFF or a very large value?

The meter fills registers for quantities it does not have with an invalid value: FFFF for unsigned and 7FFF for signed values. On a single phase D11 15 this happens for phases L2 and L3 and the line voltages; ignore those registers or remove them from the device.

Which registers can I write from ModbusCloud?

Output 1, the active tariff, tariff source, alarm, pulse output and I/O settings, the CO2 and currency factors, the reset commands and the Modbus settings. The meter does not confirm a write, so read the value back afterwards. A reset sets counters to zero for good.

Why does output 1 not switch when I write to it?

The output must first be linked to the communication function. Write the port number to the register for I/O ports set to communication, then switch output 1. If the port is used for pulses, tariffs or alarms, Modbus cannot switch it.

Can several meters share one RS485 line?

Yes, up to 247 meters. Give every meter its own address and use the same baud rate and parity on all of them. Run the bus as one line of at most 700 m and terminate both ends.
