Allaway vacuum cleaner Zi series
Monitors and controls Allaway Zi series central vacuum cleaners via Modbus RTU.
This template connects Allaway Zi series central vacuum cleaners (Z 35i, Z 45i) to ModbusCloud via Modbus RTU. It reads operating hours, filter usage, dust bin level, running status, and alarm states. A single write register allows you to power off the unit remotely.

Use cases
- Monitor dust bin fill level remotely and notify your customer when emptying is needed.
- Track cumulative operating hours to schedule preventive maintenance intervals for the vacuum motor.
- Create an alert when the filter alarm or motor alarm activates so you can respond before performance degrades.
- Log filter usage over time to determine optimal replacement schedules across multiple installations.
- Send a remote power-off command to the vacuum cleaner through the ModbusCloud dashboard.
- Compare running hours and dust bin levels across multiple Allaway Zi units in a multi-dwelling project.
Installation
Connect the Modbus RTU wiring to the small terminal block on the Allaway Zi unit: Pin 6 to GND, Pin 7 to Modbus B, Pin 8 to Modbus A (note that the official Allaway documentation has A and B swapped).
Wire the other end of the RS-485 cable to the RS-485 port on your ModbusCloud Gateway, matching A, B, and GND connections.
Configure the serial port on the gateway to 19200 baud, odd parity (parity setting 1), and 8 data bits.
Set the Modbus slave address on the Allaway Zi unit to a unique address that does not conflict with other devices on the same bus.
Import the Allaway Zi series template from the ModbusCloud template library and assign it to the correct gateway and slave address.
Verify communication by checking that live values for operating hours, dust bin level, and running status appear on your ModbusCloud dashboard.
Things to watch for
I cannot establish communication with the Allaway Zi unit. What should I check first?
The official Allaway wiring guide has Modbus A and B swapped. On the small terminal, Pin 7 is Modbus B and Pin 8 is Modbus A. Swap your A and B wires and try again.
What baud rate and parity settings does the Allaway Zi series require?
The Zi series uses 19200 baud with odd parity. Make sure your gateway serial port matches these settings exactly.
Can I turn the vacuum on via Modbus?
No. The template provides only a power-off write register. There is no Modbus register available to start the unit remotely.
Which Allaway models are supported by this template?
This template is tested with the Z 35i and Z 45i models from the Allaway Zi series. Other Zi variants may work if they share the same register map.
