Alpha Innotec Alpha Innotec Heating & Cooling LUX 2.0 Modbus TCP template

Alpha Innotec Heating & Cooling LUX 2.0

Control Alpha Innotec heatpumps via Modbus TCP for heating, cooling, and hot water management.

This ModbusCloud template monitors and controls Alpha Innotec Luxtronic 2.0 heat pump systems over Modbus TCP. It reads outdoor and indoor temperatures, flow and return temperatures, buffer tank top and bottom, warm water tank, heat pump source temperature, operating hours, and system state, and lets you write warm water target temperature, and heating, cooling, and warm water operation modes. Works with SWP, LWD, LWDRX, LW, and LW-A models.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Shift warm water heating to low-tariff hours using a ModbusCloud automation that writes the target temperature on a schedule.
  • Track actual COP by plotting electrical power from an Eastron meter alongside thermal output computed from flow and return temperatures.
  • Alert when the heat pump source temperature drops close to freezing in a ground-source install.
  • Log operating hours to plan compressor service intervals.
  • Remotely disable cooling mode during a cold summer week when it accidentally stayed on.

Installation

  1. Purchase the Alpha Connect licensed USB stick from an Alpha Innotec partner and install the Alpha Connect software.

  2. Use Alpha Connect to activate the Modbus TCP server on the Luxtronic 2.0 controller.

  3. Note the Luxtronic IP on the LAN and set a DHCP reservation.

  4. In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus TCP device at the Luxtronic IP, port 502, slave ID 1.

  5. Import the Alpha Innotec template and verify temperatures match the Luxtronic display.

Things to watch for

Modbus TCP port is closed. How do I open it?

You need the Alpha Connect software plus a licensed USB stick from an Alpha Innotec partner. There is no way to enable Modbus TCP from the Luxtronic front panel directly. This is a Alpha Innotec design decision.

Can I use Modbus RTU instead of TCP?

No. The Modbus RTU interface on the Luxtronic 2.0 is reserved for Alpha Innotec service use only and will not respond to third-party requests. Modbus TCP is the only option for ModbusCloud integration.

Some of my Alpha Innotec models cannot cool. Is the template wrong?

Not wrong, the register simply is not used. Heating-only models accept the cooling operation mode write silently but have no effect. Read-side cooling-related values stay at zero. This is expected.
