Use cases

Installation

1. 1Set the Modbus slave address and baud rate (9600) directly on the humiSonic Compact unit using its local keypad or display.
2. 2Wire the RS-485 A, B, and GND terminals of the humiSonic Compact to the corresponding terminals on the ModbusCloud gateway (MCG or MLP series).
3. 3In the ModbusCloud portal, assign the gateway serial port to Modbus RTU at 9600 baud, 8N1.
4. 4Import the Carel humiSonic Compact template from the ModbusCloud template library and set the slave address to match the value configured on the device.
5. 5Verify communication by checking that live values for fan speed, humidity setpoint, and LED status appear on the dashboard.

Things to watch for

The gateway cannot communicate with the humiSonic Compact. What should I check first?

Confirm that the Modbus slave address and baud rate on the humiSonic unit match the settings in the ModbusCloud gateway configuration. Both must be set to 9600 baud. Also verify the RS-485 wiring polarity (A to A, B to B) and that GND is connected.

Do I need to enable Modbus on the humiSonic Compact, or is it active by default?

The Modbus interface address and baud rate must be configured on the unit before it will respond to polling. Refer to the Carel humiSonic Compact installation manual for the exact menu path.

Can I connect multiple humiSonic Compact units on the same RS-485 bus?

Yes. Assign each unit a unique Modbus slave address on the device itself. Then add one template instance per unit in ModbusCloud, each set to the correct address. Keep total bus cable length within RS-485 limits and add a termination resistor at the last device.

What do the red and yellow LED register values mean?

The LED registers reflect the physical LED states on the unit. A red LED typically indicates a fault or critical alarm, while a yellow LED signals a warning condition. Consult the Carel documentation for a full list of LED codes and their meanings.
