DAB DAB Evoplus Modbus RTU template

DAB Evoplus

Electronic circulator pump for heating and cooling circuits, with remote setpoint and pump data.

The DAB Evoplus is an electronic circulator pump that moves water in heating, cooling and domestic hot water circuits in residential and commercial buildings. This Modbus RTU template reads power, head, estimated flow, speed, temperatures and alarms, and lets you switch the pump and set the regulation mode and setpoint from ModbusCloud.

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.

Use cases

  • Show power, head and estimated flow of every circulator in a building on one dashboard.
  • Get an email alert when Pump Fault is not 0 or a new alarm code appears in the alarm history.
  • Compare operating hours and power over months to plan maintenance of the pumps.
  • Lower the differential pressure setpoint from ModbusCloud during the night or in summer.
  • Check that a twin pump really alternates every 24 hours by watching status and operating time.

Installation

  1. Connect RS485 A (+), B (-) and the screen to terminals 2, 1 and 3 of the 13-pole connector and run the bus to the ModbusCloud Gateway. Terminate both ends of the line.

  2. On the pump display, open the Modbus menu and set the address, baud rate, parity and stop bits. Defaults are address 1, 19200 baud, even parity, 1 stop bit.

  3. Set parameter En to Enable. The Modbus port stays silent until you do.

  4. In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus device with the same address and settings and import the DAB Evoplus template.

  5. Check that Line Voltage reads about 230 V and that Pump Status shows 2 while the pump runs.

Things to watch for

The pump does not answer on the bus. What should I check?

First check that Modbus is enabled on the display (parameter En). Then compare address, baud rate, parity and stop bits with the ModbusCloud device; the pump defaults to 19200 baud with even parity. If the settings match, swap A and B and check the termination at both ends of the line.

Why do some registers show 32767?

The value 32767 (hex 7FFF) means the value is not available, for example the external temperature when no external sensor is connected. It is not a measurement and can be ignored or excluded from alarms.

What does the number in Regulation Mode mean?

The codes differ per software version. Read Software Version A and B first: Evoplus M/L 1.xx and 2.xx use codes 0 to 9, M/L 3.xx and Small 2.xx use 0 to 7, Small 1.xx uses 0 to 5. Look up the code in the DAB Modbus instructions for that version before you write a new mode.

What should I watch out for when writing to the pump?

A new mode or setpoint takes effect immediately and changes the flow in the whole circuit, so agree on values with whoever maintains the installation. Reset registers only act on a change from 0 to 1. On Evoplus Small the communication settings can only be changed on the display, and Power is reported in mW instead of W.
