EMU Professional Modbus RTU
Monitors 3-phase energy and power with MID B+D approval via Modbus RTU
The EMU Professional is a 3-phase energy and power meter with MID B+D approval, available for direct or current transformer connection. This Modbus RTU template reads active and reactive energy (import/export), voltage, current, active power, power factor, and frequency across all three phases.

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.
Use cases
- Monitor real-time 3-phase voltage, current, and active power per phase on a cloud dashboard for your customer.
- Track active energy import and export totals to verify grid consumption and feed-in over time.
- Set up alerts when power factor on any phase drops below a defined threshold to detect reactive power issues.
- Export MID-certified energy data for ISO 50001 energy management reporting and audits.
- Compare tariff register T1 and T2 consumption to evaluate time-of-use electricity contracts.
- Use per-phase current readings to detect load imbalance across three phases in a distribution board.
Installation
Wire the RS-485 A and B terminals of the EMU Professional meter to the corresponding RS-485 terminals on the ModbusCloud Gateway.
Set the Modbus slave address on the EMU Professional using the front panel buttons, and note the address for gateway configuration.
Confirm the meter communication settings are 19200 baud, odd parity (matching the template defaults).
Import the EMU Professional Modbus RTU template in the ModbusCloud platform and assign it to the connected gateway.
Enter the correct Modbus slave address in the template configuration to match the address set on the meter.
Verify that live readings for voltage, current, and energy appear on the ModbusCloud dashboard after the first polling cycle.
Things to watch for
The gateway cannot communicate with the EMU Professional. What should I check?
Verify that the RS-485 wiring is correct (A to A, B to B) and that both devices share the same baud rate (19200) and parity (odd). Also confirm the Modbus slave address in the template matches the address configured on the meter.
Which EMU Professional model should I choose for CT-connected installations?
Use the EMU Professional 3/5 Modbus variant when connecting external current transformers with a /5A or /1A secondary. The 3/75 model is intended for direct connection up to 75 A.
Are the energy values reported in kWh or Wh?
Energy registers use int32 data types. Check the EMU Professional Modbus register documentation for the exact scaling factor, as registers may report in Wh or units that require division by 10 or 100 depending on the firmware version.
Can I connect multiple EMU Professional meters to one gateway?
Yes. Assign a unique Modbus slave address to each meter and daisy-chain them on the same RS-485 bus. Import a separate template instance for each meter in ModbusCloud.
