Use cases

• Monitor per-phase voltage, current, and total power of each KSE Wallbox on a live cloud dashboard.
• Set the maximum charging current remotely to balance load across multiple EV chargers on site.
• Create an alert when an error or safety flag register indicates a fault condition on the wallbox.
• Track total loaded energy per charger to generate usage reports for billing or energy audits.
• Monitor vehicle state to confirm when a vehicle is connected, charging, or fully charged.
• Adjust LED brightness of the wallbox remotely for nighttime or branding requirements.

Installation

1. 1Connect the RS485 A and B lines from the KSE Wallbox to the RS485 port on your ModbusCloud gateway (MCG or MLP series).
2. 2Configure the serial port on the gateway to 9600 baud, odd parity, matching the wallbox default settings.
3. 3Assign a unique Modbus slave address on the KSE Wallbox, especially when daisy-chaining multiple units on one RS485 bus.
4. 4Import the KSE Wallbox template from the ModbusCloud template library and assign it to the correct gateway and slave address.
5. 5Verify communication by checking live register values in the ModbusCloud dashboard, confirming that voltage and current readings appear correctly.
6. 6If current values appear in milliamps, confirm that the scaling factor in the template converts them to amps for correct display.

Things to watch for

Current readings seem extremely high. What is wrong?

The KSE Wallbox reports current values in milliamps (mA). Ensure the template scaling divides by 1000 to display values in amps. Check the register scaling configuration in ModbusCloud.

I cannot communicate with the wallbox over RS485. What should I check?

Verify that the baud rate is set to 9600 and parity is set to odd on the gateway. Also confirm correct wiring of the A and B RS485 lines and that the Modbus slave address matches on both the wallbox and the template.

Can I connect multiple KSE Wallboxes to one gateway?

Yes. Assign each wallbox a unique Modbus slave address and daisy-chain them on the RS485 bus. Up to 16 units are supported by the manufacturer for load management. Create a separate template instance in ModbusCloud for each unit.

Is it safe to change the max charging current remotely?

The wallbox accepts current setpoints between 6 A and 16 A. Values outside this range may be rejected by the device. Always verify the electrical installation can support the configured current before adjusting remotely.
