Lowara e-SM Smart Pump

Variable speed booster pump that keeps pressure constant, with readings, faults and setpoints.

The Lowara e-SM Smart Pump is a range of multistage booster pumps (e-HME, e-SVE, VME, e-SVIE) with an integrated variable speed drive that keeps pressure constant in buildings and water supply. This Modbus RTU template reads pressure, speed, power, temperatures and faults and lets you start, stop and set the pressure setpoint from ModbusCloud.

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.

Use cases

  • Show pressure, speed and power of each booster pump on a ModbusCloud dashboard.
  • Get an email alert when the current error code is not zero or the pump reports dry running.
  • Keep a year of pressure history to see when demand peaks in the building.
  • Adjust the pressure setpoint from ModbusCloud without going to the pump room.
  • Track operating time per pump to plan maintenance.

Installation

  1. Connect A1, B1 and GND of the drive terminals to the RS485 port of the ModbusCloud Gateway and terminate both bus ends with 120 ohm.

  2. On the pump, select Modbus RTU in P50 and set address, baud rate and parity in P51, P52 and P54.

  3. Set P69 Avoid frequent parameter saving to yes if you will write values from ModbusCloud.

  4. In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus device on the Gateway with the same settings and import this template.

  5. Check that current pressure and motor speed match the pump display.

Things to watch for

The pump does not answer on Modbus. What should I check?

Check that P50 is set to Modbus RTU and that address, baud rate and parity in P51, P52 and P54 match ModbusCloud. Default is address 1, 9600 baud, 8N1. Then check A1 and B1 and the termination.

Why does the pressure read 100 times too high?

Pressure registers count in hundredths of a bar, 520 is 5.20 bar. The template already applies that. If P41 is set to PSI, the registers count in tenths of a psi and the bar unit in the template no longer applies.

Why can I no longer change settings on the pump itself?

While Modbus communication is active, the drive locks most parameters on its push buttons to avoid conflicts with the external device. Stop the Modbus communication to edit them locally again.

What should I watch out for when writing values?

The drive only accepts writes with function code 16. Every write is stored in EEPROM, so set P69 to yes and do not write setpoints in short cycles. Writing 1 to Default Values Reload resets the pump to factory settings.
