MENNEKES MENNEKES AMTRON® Charge Control & Professional & Twincharge & AMEDIO® Modbus TCP template

MENNEKES AMTRON® Charge Control & Professional & Twincharge & AMEDIO®

Controls and monitors MENNEKES AMTRON and AMEDIO EV charging stations via Modbus TCP

This template connects MENNEKES AMTRON Charge Control, AMTRON Professional, AMTRON Professional Twincharge, and AMEDIO Professional EV charging stations to ModbusCloud via Modbus TCP. It reads live meter values per phase and supports solar-optimized charging with remote current limiting.

Use cases

  • Monitor real-time charging power and vehicle state across multiple MENNEKES wallboxes from a single dashboard.
  • Set remote current limits to balance EV charging load with available building capacity.
  • Configure solar-optimized charging to maximize self-consumption of PV energy at residential or commercial sites.
  • Create alerts when a charger goes offline or a session fails to start within a defined time window.
  • Track total energy delivered per charger to generate monthly usage reports for fleet or tenant billing.
  • Compare per-phase current draw across chargers to detect load imbalance issues early.

Installation

  1. Log in to the MENNEKES charger web interface, enable the Modbus interface, and activate Free Charging mode.

  2. Ensure the charger runs firmware version 5.22 or later, updating via the MENNEKES support portal if needed.

  3. Connect the ModbusCloud Gateway to the same local network as the MENNEKES charger and note the charger's IP address.

  4. Import the MENNEKES AMTRON template in the ModbusCloud platform, enter the charger's IP address and Modbus TCP port (default 502).

  5. Select the number of EV charging phases (1, 2, or 3) in the template settings to configure the correct solar start/stop thresholds.

  6. Verify live data appears on the ModbusCloud dashboard by initiating a test charging session and confirming power and current readings.

Things to watch for

Which firmware version is required on the MENNEKES charger?

Firmware 5.22 or later is required. Earlier versions may not expose the full Modbus register table. Download the latest firmware from the MENNEKES support page.

Why do some registers show incorrect or very large values?

Registers for current (L1 to L3), power (L1 to L3), total power, and total energy are uint32 values spanning two consecutive addresses. Make sure the template is applied correctly so both addresses are read as a single 32-bit value.

Do I need to enable anything in the charger's web interface before Modbus works?

Yes. You must enable both the Modbus interface and Free Charging in the MENNEKES web interface. Without Free Charging enabled, remote start and current control commands will be ignored.

How do I choose between 1, 2, or 3 phase settings for solar-optimized charging?

Select the number of phases your EV actually uses for AC charging. This sets the minimum power threshold: 1.38 kW for 1 phase, 2.76 kW for 2 phases, or 4.14 kW for 3 phases. An incorrect setting will cause charging to start or stop at the wrong surplus level.
