Installation

1. 1Activate the Smart Home Interface in the alpha innotec controller menu, following the manufacturer manual (83055400pUK, part 2, pages 45 to 47).
2. 2Connect the ModbusCloud gateway (MCG or MLP series) to the same local network as the Novelan heat pump controller.
3. 3Verify that the heat pump has a valid IP address and that the gateway can reach it on the Modbus TCP default port (502).
4. 4Import the Novelan WPRnet 2.1 SHI template from the ModbusCloud template library and assign the correct IP address of the heat pump.
5. 5Confirm communication by checking that live values such as RBE Temperature and Power Consumption appear on the ModbusCloud dashboard.
6. 6Configure any desired control outputs, alerts, or scheduling rules within your ModbusCloud project.

Things to watch for

The gateway cannot connect to the heat pump over Modbus TCP. What should I check?

Ensure the Smart Home Interface is activated in the controller settings. Verify the heat pump and the ModbusCloud gateway are on the same subnet and that no firewall blocks TCP port 502.

Do I need a separate RS485 to TCP converter for this template?

No. The Novelan WPRnet 2.1 controller with SHI communicates natively over Modbus TCP on the Ethernet network. No additional serial gateway is required.

Which Novelan models are supported by this template?

The template supports all models using the WPRnet 2.1 controller, including Helox, LAV, LIV, LICV, LAP, LI 16.1, Polaris, SI, SIC, SICV, SIV, WS, and WSV.

Can I limit the compressor power to match PV surplus?

Yes. The template exposes the PC Limit register and a Limitation Mode control. Set the limitation mode to active and write the desired power cap value to align consumption with available solar production.
