Qcells Q.HOME ESS HYB-G3 (grid)
The Qcells Q.HOME ESS HYB-G3 is a modular hybrid inverter and battery storage system designed for residential and small commercial solar installations. This ModbusCloud template reads the grid-side measurement block of the Q.HOME ESS HYB-G3 over Modbus TCP, covering instantaneous grid power flow, cumulative grid energy, and per-phase voltages and currents across all three phases. With these registers in your portal you can track import and export continuously, detect phase imbalances, and build reliable energy balances without relying on the cloud polling interval of the Qcells monitoring portal.

Use cases
- Monitor real-time grid power flow to verify whether the Q.HOME ESS HYB-G3 is exporting or importing at any given moment.
- Track cumulative grid energy to reconcile monthly feed-in and consumption figures against utility invoices.
- Alert on per-phase voltage deviations on voltages_a, voltages_b, or voltages_c to catch grid quality issues early.
- Compare phase currents across currents_a, currents_b, and currents_c to detect persistent load imbalances in three-phase installations.
- Report hourly grid power data to building owners or asset managers as evidence of solar self-consumption performance.
Installation
Enable Modbus on the Q.HOME ESS HYB-G3 inverter by navigating to Menu, then Setting, then Advanced Setting, then Modbus on the inverter display, and confirm the slave address is set to 1 and the baud rate to 19200.
Connect an RS485-to-Ethernet converter to the inverter RS485 COM port using the RJ45 connector, wiring pin 4 (blue) to the converter A terminal and pin 5 (white-blue) to the B terminal, then connect the converter to your local network.
In your ModbusCloud portal, add a new ModbusCloud Gateway, set the connection type to TCP, enter the IP address and port 502 of the RS485-to-Ethernet converter, and import this template with unit ID 1.
Verify the connection by spot-checking the power register at address 70: under normal grid-tied conditions you should see a signed watt value that changes with load; if the value is zero or stuck, confirm the baud rate and RS485 polarity on the converter.
Things to watch for
All register values read zero or do not update. What is wrong?
The Q.HOME ESS HYB-G3 Modbus interface is disabled by default. Access the inverter display under Advanced Setting, then Modbus, and confirm Modbus communication is active. Also verify the CommFunSelect register is set to Modbus 485, not EV Charger mode, because EV Charger mode blocks external RS485 polling entirely.
Voltage and current values look ten times too high. Is that normal?
Yes. The SolaX-derived protocol used by the Q.HOME ESS HYB-G3 scales voltages in 0.1 V units and currents in 0.1 A units. A raw register reading of 2305 represents 230.5 V. Divide raw voltage values by 10 and raw current values by 10 in any display or calculation layer to obtain correct SI values.
The gateway connects but times out reading registers. What should I check?
The most common cause is a baud rate mismatch between the inverter and the RS485-to-Ethernet converter. The inverter defaults to 19200 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit. Confirm these settings on both sides. Also allow at least 1 second between consecutive Modbus request cycles, as the inverter rejects faster polling.
Phase B and C registers show no data on a single-phase installation.
The Q.HOME ESS HYB-G3 is available as both a single-phase and three-phase variant. On a single-phase unit, registers for phases B and C at addresses 203, 204, 207, and 208 will return zero or may not respond. This is expected behaviour. Use only the phase A registers for single-phase deployments.
