Senmatic LED Light Controller Weather
Weather and global data of the LED Light Controller: outdoor climate, sun position, boiler demand and clock.
The Senmatic LED Light Controller is a controller for grow lights in greenhouses that uses outdoor light and the position of the sun for its light plan. This Modbus TCP template reads outdoor weather, sunrise, sunset, sun position and boiler demand from unit ID 0 and lets you set the clock and location from ModbusCloud.

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.
Use cases
- Plot outdoor sun and light next to the lamp power of the compartments on one dashboard.
- Keep a year of outdoor weather history from the controller to compare lighting hours per season.
- Get an email when rain or snow is reported or when the boiler demand rises above a limit.
- Correct the clock or the GMT offset of the controller from the portal when its time is off.
Installation
Connect the ModbusCloud Gateway to the Ethernet network of the LED Light Controller. Senmatic recommends a separate network for its controllers.
Look up the IP address of the LED Light Controller under Unit setup, IP address.
In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus device with Modbus TCP, that IP address, port 502 and unit ID 0, and import this template.
Check that outdoor temperature, sunrise and sunset come in and match the controller display.
For the lighting data, add a Modbus device per compartment with the template Senmatic LED Light Controller Compartment.
Things to watch for
Which unit ID belongs to which data of the LED Light Controller?
Unit ID 0 holds the weather data, sun position, boiler demand and clock of the controller. Every compartment, called house on the controller, answers on its own unit ID: compartment 1 on unit ID 1, compartment 2 on unit ID 2. Add one Modbus device per unit ID you want to follow.
The Gateway gets no answer from the LED Light Controller. What should I check?
Check that the Gateway reaches the IP address entered under Unit setup on the controller and that the Modbus device uses port 502 and unit ID 0. Senmatic recommends a separate Ethernet network for its controllers, so connect the Gateway to that network.
In which units are light, power and time values shown?
Light, light sums, power and energy come as plain numbers in the units the controller uses itself, so compare one value with its display. Durations and times of day are shown in seconds: a start time of 06:00 reads 21600 s. Yes or no values read 1 or 0.
Can I change the lighting settings from ModbusCloud?
Yes, the system time, summer time, GMT offset, latitude and longitude are writable. Writing is off per gateway until you request it in the portal. A wrong value switches the grow lights at the wrong time or intensity, so read the current value first and change one setting at a time.
