SEW-Eurodrive SEW-Eurodrive MOVITRAC LTE-B Modbus RTU template

SEW-Eurodrive MOVITRAC LTE-B

Compact frequency inverter with speed control, status and drive parameters.

The SEW-Eurodrive MOVITRAC LTE-B is a compact frequency inverter that controls the speed of three phase motors in conveyors, fans and pumps. This Modbus RTU template reads status, actual speed, current, DC link voltage, temperature and all drive parameters, and lets you write the control word, speed setpoint and ramp time from ModbusCloud.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Show actual speed, current and status of each drive on one dashboard for a conveyor or ventilation system.
  • Get an alert when the error bit in the status word is set or the heat sink temperature rises above your limit.
  • Track operating hours per drive to plan maintenance on motors and fans.
  • Change the speed setpoint of a fan or pump remotely without going to the panel.
  • Compare DC link voltage over a year of history to spot supply problems.

Installation

  1. Connect the RJ45 communication socket of the inverter to the RS485 port of the ModbusCloud Gateway, A to A and B to B, with termination at both ends of the bus.

  2. Set P-14 to 101 for the advanced menu, then set P-12 to 5 (control word and speed) or 6 (also ramp time).

  3. Set the Modbus address and baud rate in P-36; the default speed is 115200 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit.

  4. In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus device with the same address and settings and import this template.

  5. Check that status word, DC link voltage and heat sink temperature come in before you write a setpoint.

Things to watch for

The inverter does not answer on the bus. What should I check?

Check address, baud rate and timeout in P-36 and that ModbusCloud uses the same speed with 8 data bits, no parity and 1 stop bit. The default is 115200 baud; long cables work better at a lower speed. Check the wiring in the RJ45 socket and the termination at both ends of the bus.

Writing the control word or speed has no effect. Why?

The inverter only takes commands over Modbus when P-12 is 5 or 6. With 5 the ramp comes from P-03 and P-04; with 6 the ramp time register is used. A control word of 6 enables the drive; 0 on bit 0 inhibits it. The speed setpoint is a percentage of maximum speed, 16393 means 100 percent.

The drive stops when the connection drops. Is that intended?

That depends on the timeout setting in P-36. With 0 the drive keeps the last data; a t setting trips with an error after the set time, an r setting ramps the motor down. Choose the behavior that is safe for the installation before you control the drive remotely.

How do I read the error code of the inverter?

Read the status word. When bit 5 is set, the high byte holds the error, for example 0x07 overvoltage on the DC bus, 0x08 motor overload or 0x0B overtemperature. Write a rising edge on bit 6 of the control word to reset the error once the cause is solved.
