Socomec DIRIS A-20

Panel multifunction meter for currents, voltages, power, energy and harmonics in switchboards.

The Socomec DIRIS A-20 is a multifunction panel meter that measures currents, voltages, power and energy in low voltage switchboards. This Modbus RTU template reads power per phase, energy, power factor, maximum averages and harmonics, and lets you set the CT ratio, pulse output and alarm from ModbusCloud.

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Show power, current and power factor of every switchboard feeder on one dashboard.
  • Get an email alert when a phase current or the neutral current passes a threshold.
  • Track imported energy per month for each feeder or tenant from the 365 day history.
  • Watch voltage and current THD to spot harmonic problems from drives or LED lighting.
  • Check maximum average power against the contracted capacity of the connection.

Installation

  1. Fit the RS485 option module on the back of the meter with the power off.

  2. Wire A and B of the module to the RS485 port of the ModbusCloud Gateway and switch on the 120 ohm terminator at the end of the bus.

  3. Set address, speed, parity and stop bits in the COM menu of the meter.

  4. In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus device with the same settings and import this template.

  5. Check that Total Active Power and the voltages match the display of the meter.

Things to watch for

The meter does not answer. What should I check?

Check that the RS485 option module is fitted, then compare address, speed, parity and stop bits in the COM menu with ModbusCloud. Swap A and B if it still stays silent. On long buses with many meters a repeater can be needed, because the module needs a clean RS485 signal.

Why are there several registers for the same value?

The meter has a newer and an older register table, with 32-bit and 16-bit versions of the same values. Use the registers without Old or Raw in the name. The Raw values are before the CT and VT ratio, so you multiply them yourself.

Currents and power are far too small or too large. Why?

Check CT primary and CT secondary on the meter. The main registers already include the CT ratio. If the CT settings do not match the installed transformers, every current, power and energy value is off by the same factor.

How do I change a setting or reset the meter over Modbus?

Write the new value, for example CT Primary, and then write 0 to Save Settings so the meter keeps it; the meter does not answer that save command. Reset registers take a bit mask. Agree resets with the owner, because energy and maximum values are lost.
