Installation

1. 1Mount the Socomec COUNTIS E28 on a DIN rail and wire the three-phase supply through the direct 80 A terminals according to the manufacturer's wiring diagram.
2. 2Connect the meter's Ethernet port to the same local network as the ModbusCloud gateway (MCG or MLP series) using a standard Ethernet cable.
3. 3Assign a static IP address to the COUNTIS E28 via its front panel or configuration tool, and note the Modbus TCP port (default 502).
4. 4In the ModbusCloud portal, add a new Modbus TCP device using the meter's IP address and port, then import the Socomec COUNTIS E28 template.

Things to watch for

Float32 values appear as incorrect or very large numbers. What is wrong?

The COUNTIS E28 register map uses float32 encoding with a specific byte order. Check whether word swap (big-endian or little-endian word order) is set correctly in the ModbusCloud device settings. Compare a known reading on the LCD with the dashboard value to confirm.

Energy Production reads zero even though the installation has generation. How do I fix this?

The Energy Production register is at address 74, which is outside the main 50xxx register block. Verify that this register is included in the poll configuration and that its data type is set to float32.

Can I use this template with the COUNTIS E27 or other Socomec meters?

This template is mapped specifically for the COUNTIS E28 with Modbus TCP. Other models may have different register addresses or communication protocols. Use a dedicated template for other Socomec meters to avoid mismatched data.

Do I need current transformers for loads up to 80 A?

No. The COUNTIS E28 supports direct connection up to 80 A, so CTs are not required within that range. For loads exceeding 80 A, a CT-connected Socomec model would be needed instead.
