Socomec Socomec COUNTIS E24 3PH 80A MODBUS MID Modbus RTU template

Socomec COUNTIS E24 3PH 80A MODBUS MID

Measures 3-phase active energy with dual tariff and MID certification.

Template for the Socomec COUNTIS E24, a 3-phase 80A active energy meter with MID certification and dual tariff support. Reads voltage, current, power, energy, and frequency across three phases via Modbus RTU over RS485. Also allows tariff selection through a writable register.

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Monitor real-time voltage, current, and power per phase on a live cloud dashboard for commercial tenants.
  • Log cumulative energy consumption with MID-certified accuracy for tenant billing or cost allocation.
  • Create an alert when total active power exceeds a contractual demand limit for more than five minutes.
  • Switch between dual tariff registers remotely to align with time-of-use electricity pricing schedules.
  • Generate monthly energy reports per building or distribution board and share them with facility managers.
  • Compare phase loads over time to detect imbalance and plan load redistribution.

Installation

  1. Mount the Socomec COUNTIS E24 on DIN rail and wire L1, L2, L3, and N through the meter terminals, observing the 80A maximum direct connection rating.

  2. Connect the RS485 A and B terminals of the COUNTIS E24 to the corresponding RS485 port on your ModbusCloud Gateway, using twisted-pair cable with optional shielding.

  3. Set the Modbus slave address on the COUNTIS E24 using the front-panel buttons, and confirm the baud rate is 9600 with 8N1 framing to match the gateway configuration.

  4. In the ModbusCloud platform, add a new Modbus RTU device on the correct serial port and enter the slave address you configured on the meter.

  5. Import the Socomec COUNTIS E24 template from the ModbusCloud template library to automatically map all registers for voltage, current, power, energy, and tariff control.

  6. Verify that live readings appear on the dashboard and confirm energy values match the meter display before finalizing the installation.

Things to watch for

The gateway reads zero or no data from the COUNTIS E24. What should I check?

Verify that the RS485 A and B wires are not swapped. Confirm the slave address on the meter matches the address configured in ModbusCloud. Also check that the baud rate is set to 9600 with 8N1 parity on both the meter and the gateway.

Power values appear incorrect or negative. Is this normal?

Per-phase and total active power registers use signed int32 data types. Negative values indicate power flowing in the export direction. Make sure the template is configured for int32 (not uint32) on power registers.

Can I use this template with a COUNTIS E24 behind current transformers?

The COUNTIS E24 is a direct-connect meter rated up to 80A. It does not support external CTs. For higher currents, consider a CT-connected Socomec model instead.

Do I need a termination resistor on the RS485 bus?

If the COUNTIS E24 is the last device on the RS485 bus, place a 120 ohm termination resistor across the A and B terminals. For short cable runs with only one device, termination is often not required but recommended for reliability.
