Solis SOLIS Inverter and Battery Modbus RTU template

SOLIS Inverter and Battery

Monitors Solis inverter and battery performance via Modbus RTU.

This template connects a Solis hybrid inverter and battery system via Modbus RTU. It reads 24 registers covering solar PV production, battery state of charge and health, grid metering, and household load consumption. No write commands are included.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Monitor real-time PV production across two strings and total DC output on a live dashboard.
  • Track battery SOC and SOH over time to detect capacity degradation in a Solis battery system.
  • Create alerts when grid active power export or import exceeds a defined threshold for more than five minutes.
  • Log household and backup load consumption to help customers understand their self-consumption ratio.
  • Generate weekly or monthly energy reports combining solar yield, battery cycles, and grid exchange data.

Installation

  1. Remove the original Solis datalogger dongle from the inverter communication port before wiring the Modbus connection.

  2. Connect the Modbus RTU cable from the inverter communication port to the Modbus extension on your ModbusCloud Gateway, using the correct RJ45 or JST plug for the Solis inverter.

  3. Ensure the gateway is configured for Modbus RTU, not RS485 or RS232, since this template requires the Modbus extension.

  4. Set the correct Modbus slave address and baud rate on the inverter to match the template defaults.

  5. Import the Solis Inverter and Battery template in the ModbusCloud platform and assign it to the connected gateway.

  6. Verify live register readings in the ModbusCloud dashboard and confirm that battery charge and discharge values display correctly without modifying the charge-discharge module.

Things to watch for

Why do I need to remove the Solis datalogger dongle?

The datalogger dongle occupies the same communication port used for Modbus RTU. It must be unplugged so the gateway can communicate directly with the inverter. After removal, the Solis cloud app will no longer receive data from the inverter.

Can I use an RS485 or RS232 extension instead of a Modbus extension?

No. This template requires a Modbus RTU extension on the gateway. A generic RS485 or RS232 interface will not work correctly with this register configuration.

Why are my battery charge and discharge values incorrect?

Do not modify any settings in the charge-discharge module of the template. Changing these registers causes incorrect reporting of charge and discharge power. Restore the original template values if they have been altered.

Does this template work with other Solis inverter models?

It has been verified on the Solis S5-EH1P6K-L single-phase hybrid inverter. Other Solis hybrid inverters that share the same Modbus register map may also work, but compatibility is not guaranteed.
