The id register returns 0xFFFF instead of 711. Why?

The model block has not been located correctly. SunSpec models are discovered dynamically: the absolute Modbus address of model 711 depends on which earlier models precede it in the device map. Read the SunSpec identifier at 40001, walk the block chain by reading each model's ID and length, and update the template's base address offset to match where model 711 actually begins on this device.

All registers read successfully but ena always shows 0. What is wrong?

Some IEEE 1547-2018 devices do not support disabling frequency droop; the DISABLED state is optional per the standard. If the device ignores writes to ena or always returns 0, confirm in the device documentation whether DISABLED is implemented. Under normal grid-connected operation, the function is expected to remain enabled.

I wrote new droop parameters but the device still uses old values. Why?

SunSpec model 711 uses a staged-commit pattern: write the parameter values first, then write a request to adptctlreq to apply them. Poll adptctlrslt until it shows COMPLETED. Writing parameters without triggering the adopt request means the device retains its previous active settings.

Is it safe to write to ena and rvrtctl on a live grid-connected inverter?

Use caution. Writing to any RW register on a live DER can affect grid compliance behavior. Disabling frequency droop on an IEEE 1547-2018 installation may violate interconnection requirements. The reversion timer (rvrttms, rvrtctl) is designed to limit the window of any override, but always confirm with the site engineer and utility interconnection agreement before writing to control registers.
