SunSpec Model 715 — DERCtl
SunSpec
Overview
SunSpec Model 715, known as DERCtl, is a standardised Modbus TCP control interface defined by the SunSpec Alliance for distributed energy resources such as inverters and battery storage systems. The template covers the core control-plane registers of the model: local/remote control mode, dual heartbeat counters for both the DER and the external controller, a latched-alarm reset, and an operational control command. Together these registers let you verify that a SunSpec-compliant device is in remote-control mode, maintain a watchdog-style communication handshake, and issue operating-mode commands. Deploying this template in the ModbusCloud portal gives installers and system integrators a uniform way to supervise DER control-plane health across any certified device.
Use cases
- Monitor the locremctl register to verify a DER device is in remote-control mode before dispatching commands.
- Track the derhb heartbeat counter to detect communication loss or unresponsive DER firmware in real time.
- Alert on a stale controllerhb value to confirm the external controller is still writing updates at the expected interval.
