InLiving product (*can fit to any Schneider switch Socket) TFT display (modbus RTU protocol) Modbus RTU template

TFT display (modbus RTU protocol)

Displays temperature, humidity, and status icons with simple button control via Modbus RTU.

InLiving TFT display with RS485 Modbus RTU interface for Schneider and MERTEN M-PLAN switch sockets. The template reads temperature, humidity, and button states, and controls displayed symbols, colors, setpoints, and LCD contrast.

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Monitor room temperature and humidity readings from every InLiving display on a single cloud dashboard.
  • Adjust heating or cooling setpoints remotely by writing the required temperature register from the platform.
  • Create an alert when measured room temperature deviates from the setpoint by more than two degrees for over ten minutes.
  • Log button presses and mode changes to track occupant interactions with the display over time.
  • Change displayed status icons and colors remotely to reflect current HVAC system states such as heating, cooling, or ventilation.

Installation

  1. Mount the InLiving TFT display into a compatible Schneider or MERTEN M-PLAN switch socket frame and connect the RS485 A and B terminals to the Modbus gateway bus wiring.

  2. Set a unique Modbus slave address on the display using its configuration interface, ensuring no address conflicts on the bus.

  3. Verify that the gateway RS485 port is configured for Modbus RTU at 19200 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and the parity setting matching the display default.

  4. Import the InLiving TFT Display template in the ModbusCloud platform and assign it to the corresponding gateway and slave address.

  5. If the display should show externally sourced temperature or humidity, write the appropriate bit in register 39 via the template to switch from the internal sensor.

  6. Confirm live data appears on the ModbusCloud dashboard by comparing displayed values on the physical screen with the cloud readings.

Things to watch for

The gateway cannot communicate with the display. What should I check?

Confirm that the baud rate on both the gateway and the display is set to 19200. Verify correct wiring of the A and B RS485 terminals and ensure the slave address is unique on the bus.

Temperature readings in ModbusCloud do not match the value shown on the display.

Use the measured temperature offset register to calibrate the sensor. Also check whether the display is configured to show internal or external temperature via the bit field register at address 39.

Symbols are not appearing on the display after writing to the symbol registers.

Make sure you write both the symbol index and the symbol color register for the target position. The display supports 163 predefined symbols, so verify the index is within the valid range.

Can I connect multiple InLiving displays on the same RS485 bus?

Yes. Assign each display a unique Modbus slave address and use a daisy-chain topology with proper bus termination on the last device. Add a separate template instance in ModbusCloud for each address.
