Use cases

• Monitor buffer tank and DHW temperatures remotely on a live dashboard to verify heat pump performance.

Installation

1. 1For Modbus RTU, disconnect the control display from the heat pump and connect the ModbusCloud gateway to the Modbus bus using wire A (green) and wire B (yellow), then isolate the red and black wires.
2. 2For Modbus TCP/IP, order the ThermannPro converter, install it on COM2 in place of the IOT module, and reconnect the IOT module to the converter output to maintain the warranty.
3. 3Set the gateway serial port to 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and configure the correct Modbus slave address matching the heat pump.
4. 4Import the ThermannPro Heat Pump template from the ModbusCloud template library into your project.
5. 5Verify communication by checking that live sensor values such as buffer tank temperature (T10) and DHW temperature (T16) appear on the dashboard.
6. 6Test a mode change, for example switching from OFF to Heating + DHW, and confirm the heat pump responds correctly.

Things to watch for

Why do I lose the local control display when using Modbus RTU?

The Modbus RTU connection uses the same port as the control display. To keep both local and remote control, use the Modbus TCP/IP option with the ThermannPro converter instead.

Why can I not write a set temperature even though the register is configured?

When a heating curve is active for that circuit, the manually set temperature is automatically blocked by the heat pump. Disable the heating curve first if you want to control the temperature directly.

What baud rate and wiring should I use for RTU?

Use 9600 baud. Connect wire A (green) to the gateway A terminal and wire B (yellow) to the gateway B terminal. Isolate the red and black wires to prevent interference.

Do I need the ThermannPro converter for TCP/IP, or can I use a generic RS485-to-TCP converter?

ThermannPro requires their own converter for TCP/IP. It must be installed on COM2, and the IOT module must be reconnected to the converter output to keep the manufacturer warranty valid.
