Thessla Green Thessla Green Recuperator AirPack Modbus RTU template

Thessla Green Recuperator AirPack

Monitors and controls Thessla Green AirPack recuperator ventilation units via Modbus RTU.

This template integrates with Thessla Green AirPack and AirPack Home recuperator units via Modbus RTU. It reads temperatures, airflow status, and bypass state while providing control over ventilation modes, airflow setpoints, and on/off switching.

Use cases

  • Monitor intake, extract, and outside temperatures on a live dashboard to verify recuperator efficiency.
  • Control airflow setpoints remotely to adjust ventilation levels without a site visit.
  • Create an alert when bypass status changes unexpectedly or outside temperature drops below a threshold.
  • Switch between summer and winter mode remotely based on seasonal weather changes.
  • Log historical temperature and airflow data to identify performance degradation over time.
  • Toggle the ventilation unit on or off remotely for maintenance scheduling or emergency shutdown.

Installation

  1. Connect the ModbusCloud Gateway to the Modbus RTU port on the Thessla Green AirPack unit using a twisted pair cable for the A and B data lines, plus a ground reference.

  2. Set the gateway baud rate to 9600 to match the AirPack default Modbus RTU configuration.

  3. Confirm with the HVAC installer that a free Modbus slot is available on the ventilation unit, as some stock control panels already occupy a Modbus connection.

  4. Assign a unique Modbus slave address on the AirPack unit and configure the same address on the gateway.

  5. Import the Thessla Green AirPack template in the ModbusCloud platform and link it to the configured gateway.

  6. Verify that temperature readings and mode statuses appear correctly on the ModbusCloud dashboard before handing over to the customer.

Things to watch for

The gateway cannot communicate with the AirPack unit. What should I check first?

Verify that the baud rate on both the gateway and the AirPack is set to 9600. Also confirm that the Modbus slave address matches on both sides and that wiring polarity (A and B lines) is correct.

Can I connect the gateway if a wall-mounted control panel is already using Modbus?

Some factory control panels use Modbus to communicate with the main board. You need to verify that a free Modbus slot is available. Connecting two masters to the same port will cause communication conflicts.

Does this template work with both the AirPack and AirPack Home models?

Yes. The template is compatible with all Thessla Green AirPack series units, including the AirPack and AirPack Home models.

Temperature values appear as zero or unrealistic numbers. What could be wrong?

Check that the wiring is secure and that there are no termination resistor issues on the RS-485 bus. Also confirm that the correct Modbus register map is being used by verifying the template version matches your unit firmware.
