Atrea DUPLEX RD5

Heat recovery ventilation unit with remote performance, mode and temperature control.

The Atrea DUPLEX with RD5 control is a heat recovery ventilation unit that supplies fresh air and extracts used air in homes, schools and offices. This Modbus TCP template reads air temperatures, air flows, mode and all alarms, and lets you set the required performance, operating mode and temperature from ModbusCloud.

Send your device list

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.

Use cases

  • Show supply, outdoor and indoor air temperature of every ventilation unit on one dashboard.
  • Send an email when the Clogged Filter warning or any alarm becomes active.
  • Track supply and exhaust air flow over time to spot unbalanced ventilation.
  • Lower the required performance of a school ventilation unit outside opening hours with a scheduled automation.
  • Switch the desired mode or required temperature remotely without visiting the site.

Installation

  1. Connect the Ethernet port of the RD5 control to the network of the ModbusCloud Gateway, or directly to its LAN port.

  2. In the service settings of the unit, set 3.15.1 Modbus TCP to on. Modbus is off at the factory.

  3. In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus TCP device with the IP address of the unit, port 502 and unit ID 1, and import the Atrea DUPLEX RD5 template.

  4. Check that Outdoor Air Temperature and Supply Air Temperature show plausible values.

  5. For control from ModbusCloud, set the control source registers to manual (0) so the weekly program does not overwrite your values.

Things to watch for

The unit does not answer on port 502. What should I check?

Modbus TCP is off at the factory; enable 3.15.1 Modbus TCP in the service settings. Check that the IP address of the unit is reachable from the network of the ModbusCloud Gateway and that no firewall blocks port 502. The unit answers on any unit ID except 0.

Some readings fail or come back late.

The RD5 control needs at least 5 seconds between batches of requests. Keep the reading interval at its default or longer, and avoid reading the unit from several systems at the same time.

Why does a written mode or temperature not stay?

If the unit follows its weekly program, the program overwrites manual values. Set the matching control source register to 0 (manual), or write 2 after the new value for a temporary change. Some modes also need equipment such as a circulation damper.

What should I watch out for when writing to the unit?

Write only the control values: performance, mode, temperature, zone and season. The configuration registers for fan control, orientation, heater and cooler must not be changed. Outdoor or indoor temperatures sent from another system must be refreshed within 90 seconds, otherwise the unit reports a sensor fault.
