B+GE-TECH B+GE-TECH DS100 (charge) Modbus RTU template

B+GE-TECH DS100 (charge)

The B+GE-TECH DS100 is a MID-certified, bidirectional three-phase energy meter for DIN-rail installation in 3P4W AC networks up to 100 A per phase. This template covers the charge (import) direction and reads the device over Modbus RTU via RS485. It collects per-phase voltages, currents, and active power for phases A, B, and C, plus total active power and cumulative imported energy. Connecting the DS100 to the ModbusCloud Gateway gives installers live and historical visibility of three-phase consumption in sub-distributions, EV charging circuits, and building loads.

Use cases

  • Monitor total and per-phase active power on a wallbox circuit to verify that charging current stays within contracted limits.
  • Track cumulative imported energy at address 270 to produce monthly consumption reports for tenant billing.
  • Alert on per-phase current imbalance across L1, L2, and L3 to detect wiring faults or unbalanced loads early.
  • Compare per-phase voltages over time to identify voltage sag events during peak-load periods in a building.
  • Verify that a heat pump or HVAC unit draws expected power per phase after installation or maintenance.

Installation

  1. Enable Modbus RTU on the B+GE-TECH DS100 by entering the configuration menu via the front panel buttons, then set the baud rate (default 9600), parity (none), stop bits (1), and assign a unique slave address under the communication section.

  2. Wire the RS485 A and B terminals of the DS100 to the RS485 port of the ModbusCloud Gateway, keeping cable runs under the recommended length and using a 120-ohm termination resistor at each end of the bus if the meter is the last device.

  3. In the ModbusCloud portal, add the Gateway, then import the B+GE-TECH DS100 (charge) template and set the Modbus unit ID to match the slave address configured on the meter.

  4. Spot-check the connection by reading the voltages_a register (address 1024): the value should match the phase-to-neutral voltage displayed on the DS100 LCD, confirming correct addressing and scaling.

Things to watch for

Why do voltage and current registers return implausible or zero values?

The DS100 encodes all values as signed 32-bit big-endian integers with implicit decimal scaling. Voltage and current registers use a multiplier documented in the manual (commonly millivolts or milliamps). If your Modbus master reads them as 16-bit or applies float decoding, values will appear wrong. Confirm your client reads two consecutive 16-bit registers and treats the result as Int32 big-endian.

The energy register value seems far too large. What is wrong?

The cumulative energy register at address 270 is delivered in hundredths of kWh (Int32 format with two implied decimal places). A raw value of 374 represents 3.74 kWh. Apply a scaling divisor of 100 in your portal channel configuration to display the correct kWh figure.

The Gateway connects but no register data appears. What should I check?

Verify that the slave address set on the DS100 front panel matches the unit ID entered in the portal. Also confirm baud rate, parity, and stop-bit settings match on both sides. On the RS485 bus, check that A and B lines are not swapped and that termination resistors are fitted if the DS100 is at a bus endpoint.

Can I use multiple DS100 meters on the same RS485 bus?

Yes, but each meter must have a unique slave address (configured via the front-panel menu). All meters on the bus must share identical baud rate and framing settings. The ModbusCloud Gateway polls each unit ID in sequence, so keep the total bus length within the RS485 specification and avoid duplicate addresses, which will cause collisions and missing data.
