Installation

1. 1Enable Modbus RTU on the B+GE-TECH DS100 by entering the configuration menu on the meter's front panel, then set the desired unit ID, baud rate (default 9600), and data format to 8N1 under the communication settings.
2. 2Wire the DS100 RS485 terminals (A+, B-) to the corresponding RS485 terminals on the ModbusCloud Gateway using a twisted-pair cable; keep the run under 1000 m and add a 120-ohm termination resistor at each end of the bus if the meter is the last device.
3. 3In the ModbusCloud portal, add a new Gateway, select the RS485 port, match the baud rate and unit ID to the values set on the meter, then import the B+GE-TECH DS100 template with one click and assign it to the correct unit ID.
4. 4Verify the connection by opening the live register view in the portal and confirming that voltages_a, voltages_b, and voltages_c show plausible line voltage values; if any register reads zero or an error, cross-check the unit ID and baud rate settings on the meter.

Things to watch for

Why do all register reads return zero or an error?

The most common cause is a mismatch between the unit ID configured on the DS100 and the unit ID set in the portal. Enter the meter's configuration menu, note the slave address, and update the ModbusCloud template assignment to match. Also confirm the baud rate on both sides is identical.

Values appear but look wrong or are off by a factor of 100 or 1000. Why?

The DS100 returns signed 32-bit integers with implicit decimal scaling. For example, energy is delivered in hundredths of a unit so a raw value of 374 means 3.74. Check the scaling factor documented in the OpenEMS template; the ModbusCloud template applies the correct factor automatically, but a manually configured connection may not.

The gateway connects to the RS485 bus but no data arrives. What should I check?

First verify RS485 polarity: A+ on the meter must connect to A+ on the Gateway and B- to B-. Swapped wires cause silent failures. Also check that no other device on the same bus has the same unit ID as the DS100, and that the termination resistor is present at the physical ends of the cable run.

Readings appear intermittent when multiple DS100 meters share one RS485 bus.

Each DS100 on a shared bus must have a unique unit ID. Access the configuration menu on each meter in turn and assign sequential IDs. Also ensure the baud rate is the same on every device. The DS100 supports 9600, 19200, 38400, and 115200 baud; pick one rate and configure all devices and the Gateway to match.
