Logamatic 5000 Buderus Heating Modbus TCP template

Buderus Heating

Controls Buderus Logamatic 5000 heating systems via Modbus TCP.

This template connects the Buderus Logamatic 5000 heating controller to ModbusCloud via Modbus TCP. It reads temperatures, pump states, valve positions, and burner data. It also allows writing operation modes and temperature setpoints for heating circuits and warm water.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Monitor outside temperature, flow temperatures, and pump states on a live cloud dashboard for each heating circuit.
  • Adjust day and night room temperature setpoints remotely to optimize energy consumption across multiple buildings.
  • Create an alert when warm water temperature drops below the configured setpoint for more than 10 minutes.
  • Integrate burner power and strategy flow temperature data into an energy report for annual performance reviews.
  • Switch heating circuit operation modes between Auto and Manual remotely during seasonal commissioning.
  • Log thermal output and burner runtime to verify hybrid system energy share targets required by local regulations.

Installation

  1. Connect your ModbusCloud Gateway to the same IP network as the Buderus Logamatic 5000 controller.

  2. Ensure Modbus TCP is enabled on the Logamatic 5000 and note its IP address and TCP port (default port 502).

  3. Do not use the Modbus RTU interface on the Logamatic 5000, as it is reserved for internal Buderus functions only.

  4. Import the Buderus Logamatic 5000 template in the ModbusCloud platform and assign the correct IP address and port to the gateway connection.

  5. Verify the Logamatic firmware version and cross-check the register map with the Buderus Modbus TCP documentation, as datapoints differ between software versions.

  6. Confirm live data is appearing on your ModbusCloud dashboard by checking outside temperature and at least one heating circuit flow temperature.

Things to watch for

Why do some registers return zero or unexpected values?

Different Logamatic 5000 firmware versions use different register maps. Verify your software version and compare it against the Buderus Modbus TCP documentation to ensure you are polling the correct addresses.

Can I use Modbus RTU instead of Modbus TCP?

No. The Modbus RTU interface on the Logamatic 5000 is reserved for internal Buderus use. External communication must use Modbus TCP over Ethernet.

Where can I find the official Buderus Modbus register documentation?

Buderus provides a dedicated document for controlling the Logamatic 5000 via Modbus TCP. Be aware that the most current version is available only in German.

Which function modules and boilers are supported by this template?

The template covers FM-MW, FM-CM, FM-MM, FM-SI, FM-AM modules and is compatible with Logamatic 5311, 5313, Logatherm, Logano plus, Logamax plus, Buderus GB, and Buderus KB series devices.
