All register values read zero even though the inverter is running. Why?

The Solis S Series only populates the 33xxx meter registers when a compatible grid meter is physically connected and recognized by the inverter. If no external Acrel or compatible CT meter is wired to the inverter's meter port, these registers will return zero. Check the meter connection and verify the meter type is configured correctly in the inverter settings.

The power and powers_a/b/c registers return unexpectedly large or negative values.

These are signed 32-bit values (int32) spanning two consecutive 16-bit Modbus registers. The Solis protocol uses big-endian word order: the high word comes first at the base address. If your Modbus master assembles the words in little-endian order, the result will be wrong. Confirm your client reads the two registers as a big-endian int32 and applies the documented 0.001 kW scaling factor.

The gateway connects but no data appears after importing the template.

The Solis RS485 bus will only respond to one master at a time. If the manufacturer's WiFi data logger or S3 stick is also active on the same RS485 port, bus contention will prevent the ModbusCloud Gateway from getting responses. Disconnect or disable the data logger during initial testing, then check whether both can coexist by using a sufficiently long inter-frame gap.

The currents_a/b/c values look correct but the energy register seems frozen or resets unexpectedly.

Register 33283 (energy) is a cumulative uint32 counter that rolls over at its maximum value. It also resets if the inverter firmware is updated or the inverter is factory-reset. Log raw values in ModbusCloud and apply rollover detection in your dashboard. Additionally, excessive polling (faster than once per few seconds) can lock up the Solis Modbus stack, causing stale reads.
