Maico Ventilation Systems
Control Maico WS ventilation systems via Modbus TCP
This template connects Maico WS series ventilation units via Modbus TCP. It reads temperatures, airflow, humidity, fan speeds, and filter status. It also allows control of ventilation level, operating mode, setpoints, and boost ventilation.

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.
Use cases
- Monitor supply and exhaust temperatures, airflow, and humidity on a live dashboard for each ventilation unit.
- Create an alert when filter remaining life drops below a threshold so maintenance can be scheduled proactively.
- Adjust ventilation level and operating mode remotely without a site visit.
- Track exhaust air humidity trends over time to verify proper moisture management in residential buildings.
- Trigger boost ventilation remotely during high-occupancy events or after renovation work.
- Compare fan speed and airflow data across multiple Maico units installed at different customer sites.
Installation
Connect the ModbusCloud Gateway to the same local network as the Maico ventilation unit, ensuring both devices can communicate over Modbus TCP.
Verify that the Modbus TCP interface is enabled on the Maico unit and note its IP address and port number (default Modbus TCP port is 502).
In the ModbusCloud portal, add a new device and import the Maico Ventilation Systems template from the template library.
Enter the IP address of the Maico unit and confirm the correct Modbus TCP port in the device configuration.
Test the connection by reading a few key registers such as supply temperature and current ventilation level to confirm communication.
If you use external CO2 or room humidity sensors, configure bus registers 764 and 763 to supply those values to the Maico unit.
Things to watch for
Which Modbus TCP port does the Maico unit use by default?
Most Maico WS and WR units use the standard Modbus TCP port 502. Check the unit's network settings menu or commissioning documentation to confirm.
Some write registers do not seem to respond. What could be wrong?
Certain control registers use virtual addresses. For example, the sleep function register uses address -1, which may not map directly in all configurations. Verify the register address list in the Maico Modbus documentation and ensure you are writing the correct value type.
Can I supply external sensor data to the ventilation unit via Modbus?
Yes. CO2 values can be written to register address 764 and room humidity values to register address 763. This allows integration of third-party air quality sensors through the ModbusCloud gateway.
How do I reset the filter counter or clear an error remotely?
Filter reset and error reset registers are write-triggered. You write a specific value once to the designated register to execute the reset. The template includes these registers as control actions.
